Manny being Manny. If you take his statement at face value, it seems like an honest mistake. But it could have been avoided by asking the league if the drug was permitted before taking it.

50 games. That's pretty steep, imo.

NEW YORK (AP) — Manny Ramirez was suspended for 50 games by Major League Baseball on Thursday, becoming the latest high-profile player ensnared in the sport's drug scandals. The Los Angeles Dodgers star said he did not take steroids and was given medication by a doctor that contained a banned substance.

A person familiar with the details of the suspension said Ramirez used HCG, human chorionic gonadotropin, which is prescribed to stimulate female fertility and testosterone production in men and to treat delayed puberty in boys. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the banned substance wasn't announced.
:
The 36-year-old outfielder apologized to the Dodgers and fans for "this whole situation."

"Recently, I saw a physician for a personal health issue. He gave me a medication, not a steroid, which he thought was OK to give me," Ramirez said in a statement issued by the players' union.

Honest mistake?

Something tells me he wasn't taking it to stimulate his fertility. Cheater.

Its well know that this is used in conjunction with cycles of steroids.

If you don't know: Its used as a stimulant that kicks your testicles into gear to make testosterone after your cycles of steroids. The testes shut down their natural production of testosterone when you do steroids, causing testicular atrophy, so HCG help to prevent this atrophy.

So, if he was not caught for using any STERIOD, then I belive his story.

Of course there is always the possibility he is using a steroid that is undetectable, but here is the possible medical reason:

...In the male, hCG injections are used to stimulate the leydig cells to synthesize testosterone. The intratesticular testosterone is necessary for spermatogenesis from the sertoli cells. Typical uses for hCG in men include hypogonadism and fertility treatment.

Many his boys don't swim? Is is possible he's just trying to have a kid? We shall see.

Thanks for that info.

The word is, Manny may have been having 'problems' with the ladies. His batting average in that area was very low, that's why he went to the doctor and that was the reason he was prescribed that drug.

Isn't that what Viagra is for? Who knows; but your statement was intriguing:

So, if he was not caught for using any STERIOD, then I belive his story.

The fact that he has made no attempt to appeal the ruling is telling.

Too bad; I always liked Manny. Still do.

I have never stopped liking a player due to performance enhancing use and this will not change today....

Manny is a born natural hitter .....manny was never a muscle bound anything......i remember seeing him in my parents neighborhood (where he bought his mom a house in S. FL) and he appeared to be a happy go lucky guy ....i bet my brother $ to knock on the door and ask him if he wanted to go to the PATS /fins game with us cause we had a extra ticket....(no luck lol) ..i would not bother any other MLplayer like this ....but the other side of "manny being manny" was always that he was just a chill happy go lucky guy..... .but a KING in the batter's box.

You know I heard manny used to come to the plate in fenway listening to the song......"I get high....high high" LOL.........until the sox made him change it.......classic ....anyhow maybe that killed his spermies.......i don't see him as a juice guy.....but you never know if he might have used in his older age to alleviate joint probs or something but usually the steroid for this is easily detectable (Deca Durabolin) for months so prolly not....Either way .........Manny will always be the man in my mind.........just like Barry Bonds will always have a place in my heart as the best of all those that juiced ( i mean the guy was in a league OF HIS OWN) when a significant portion of other hitter's and pitchers were juic'n along side. Some say a cheater is a cheater.........and so long as they are Angles in their own right and don't house some deep seated jealosuy let them throw the first stone....and buy into the ESPN political correctness that fan's should be outraged and cheated....instead of B*tch slapped for acting like they didn't know and actually would have CARED if someone whispered it to them on the D. Low back when they had a boner form the home run races of a few years past......

Now i just need to hope that Brady is healthy......(man i wish they held onto cassel for this year)

Ill be damn honest here. I'm trying to hold onto some of my hero's. :bnghd:

I hope to all that is frigin holy that he only comes out of this with the implications that he was using the drug for fertility reasons and that this is, all be it TOTALY unexceptable, just "manny being manny" and not reading up on the list of banned drugs.

This sport hat taken a huge beating for this major fan, just in this last year for one. Barry and those just after him, fine. But now A-Rod, and Manny.

Not just A-Roid, but the whole Sign Relaying scandal. ARE YOU KIDDING ME.

Its starting to get to the point that Im looking back, and to how far back, and how deep the "old boys" games go. Is DiMaggio's record in question? Was he getting sign's given to him? The stinger is, WE WILL NEVER KNOW.... and the book of lies keeps on opening up.

I'll never forget Manny's first at bat as a Red Sox. First pitch, he hit it outta the park!

He'd be one of the few MLB players that I'd actually enjoy having a beer with.

He had one of the best swings in baseball, imo.
