SPY chiefs are pressing ahead with secret plans to monitor all internet use and telephone calls in Britain despite an announcement by Jacqui Smith, the home secretary, of a ministerial climbdown over public surveillance.

GCHQ, the government’s eavesdropping centre, is developing classified technology to intercept and monitor all e-mails, website visits and social networking sessions in Britain. The agency will also be able to track telephone calls made over the internet, as well as all phone calls to land lines and mobiles.

As we have seen in Sweden, Australia and China there is starting to develop censorship on internet.

Now the time for surveillance has come to United Kingdom.

We ARE going into a bigbrother society, it´s not just an utopia!

This is starting to look like a 21th century variant og George Orwells 1984...

When you think about it.. this is evolution of society.. when a society gets as tech advanced and as crowded as the UK, this kind of thing is the only forseeable option

What other possible way can things go with human nature as it is and the world revolving around money?

As long as they don't abuse it...

I am however inclined to believe them. The amount of data transferred is just too great for a single system to monitor all of it; it would be inefficient and pretty pointless.

They can, and have been able to for a while now, monitor traffic and pick out particular targets for closer scrutiny. But that is far from monitoring the whole internet and looking at everyone’s data.

I'm not saying that it is or isn't going to happen, but if it is supposed to be top secret then how did it end up on atleast two websites?
