I thought I'd relay an experiance I had during the Cold War when I was based in what was then West Germany during the eighties. I was attached to an Electronic Warfare unit based in Celle. The main barracks was a former SS building during the Second World War and was famous for being the largest single brick building in Europe at the time. Now you can find this building on google earth. Just type in Neues Rathhaus, Celle. I was very interested in the history and by chance found an intelligence NCO who collected Nazi memorabilia on camp (he had mannikins in his room in full regalia). Apparently the SS used the building as a research facility and HQ. It had four or possibly five stories above ground and the same below. Before the Americans arrived in Celle the SS flooded the lower levels after removing as much as they could. Once the Americans got the camp under control they sent three divers down into the flooded levels. Two never made it back to the surface with the third getting back minus his sanity and raving about what he had seen. The flooded levels were then sealed and the base handed to the British. At the ground level you could still observe where the banisters had been cut short and the holes for the mounts continuing down into the concrete floor. The rumour was the SS had been practicing occultism in the basement levels and research into new technologies. There were many tales of paranormal events and I myself have heard the noise of jack boots marching through empty corridors, had sightings of entities in my four man room when the door was locked and most of the camp being away on leave and hearing German being spoken in rooms locked and empty. One friend woke to find his bed almost at the ceiling (about five metres in the air) after realizing his room mates couldn't possibly be holding his very heavy bed up that high he started screaming (very unsoldier like) at which point his bed dropped to the floor and woke up his comrades. There were many stories of different bases having rooms often locked and out of bounds which contained pentagrams painted or etched into the floors and legends of soldiers committing suicide after spending the night in these rooms on a dare. As far as I'm aware no one seems to speak of these tales yet they were widespread through out Germany in both the British and American sectors and I would encourage anyone with similar stories to tell to add to this thread. I would also encourage anyone traveling to Germany to try and get to Celle, which is a very beautiful town and go to this building and let me know if the ground floor levels are still the lowest point you can access. It appears to be open to the public now although I'm not sure what its being used for.

Well, i have never heard about this before but I will do some digging around for more info. Just wondering, do you know what the divers story was when he came back,what did he see? Thanks for posting this and hopefully we can learn more about this.

Sorry freeyourmind I couldn't tell you what the diver had to say, I may have been told but we are talking twenty years back, the old grey matter gets a little fuzzy with age. It certainly warrants some research but don't fear, Im not a hoaxer. I have some info on a nearby train station in a place called Wesendorf. It was used for Jews on their way to Belsen during the war and utilised by the British during the Cold War. Im to tired to cover it at the moment but will endeavor to detail it when I have time. I also noticed on google that a building has been removed from the grounds of Neues Rathhaus which was the old Ops B. Not sure if that's significant but.

Interesting yarn. Neues Rathous translates to New Town Hall, by the way.

There are a lot of stories out there about the Nazis and the occult, some of it through the Ahnenerbe. Please, follow up your story...ya never know, eh?

Fear not my friend,I certainly do not think you are a hoaxer. And I certainly understand about the grey matter getting a little fuzzy w/ age, it's the same here. I just really find your story interesting. I'll keep digging and hopefully we can come up with some more info. I have always had a interest in what the nazis were practicing... the occult, quantum physics, ect. They did unthinkable things but they were pretty advanced. Makes me wonder what they were up to. Also, my grandpa did some work for the government durring that time and he wont elaborate on very much about his job or what he was doing but he told me that the hitler was into the occult and that somewhere in Antarctica they had a underground facility where they would do unspeakable things. My grandpa was extremely smart but very secretive about his job and it's really sad because recently he has been suffering from Alzheimers but it hasent affected his long term memory, it would be interesting if I brought this up to him and see what or if he will say anything about it. One thing he always tells me is to be careful of the "spooks,dont trust anyone, they are always watching". I was upset when he said it at first because I thought it ment something racist, but I was wrong he was talking about the CIA.lol

This is the spiel from the google 3D model of Neues Rathous. Didnt realise they had converted it to the town house, thanks for that Johnny! I noticed no mention of its WW2 history though. I have to correct myself, the old Ops B building is still there, it was hard for me to spot it without the parade ground as reference. I really would like to find out if they have left the lower levels sealed. As for Wesendorf my wife wants to go and grab some noodles so I'll have to try and post later. I know what your Grandfather means by not trusting 'spooks' Freeyourmind but we have to ask ourselves if silence is the best way. I mean if no one ever speaks out then we are all left in the dark. There are two very interesting interviews on Nazi Occultism on the projectcamelot site you might want to check out.

There are many stories about Nazi's and the Occult but I never heard about this one.

Hope some people will check it out. Would love to go there myself but have other things to attened to.

hey soxmis, i was based there in the 80s i was in the arty regt posted back to uk then yous guys took over,(still miss your caravan), anyways to put more power to your bow your right about the cellars, still flooded at a guess if you goggle Celle then look at trenchard bks you will see they have made a large pond ?, celle was the main railhead during the war for transportation of jews to belsen concentration camp , if the rumours are true there was a tunnel leading from the camp straight to belsan, and the jackboots again true heard them with my very own ears after lowering the regt flag up in the tower, all those engravings in there from the war spooky
if you used the multi gym at the bottom level there was always a presence
rumour has it that there was a large machining shop below ground level
that along with the tunnel to belsan , also heard about the divers, the main reason our diving section could not go down was the german authorities wouldn't give permission as we only rented the place of them,

Absolutely fascinating...I am very interested in nazi occult history. If the story can be told without causing too much trauma, The story needs to be told but when they are ready to do so. The story of this place must be incredible for it to remain sealed after all these years, and no one has been allowed to pump out the water and examine the lower levels. I look forward to hearing more on this.

Yes part of Occult National Socialism was involved in unleashing new Entities and some of them got out 'on the loose' so to speak.

ok i had a nosey at some new pictures of taunton bks (said trenchard in previous post heads going lol) if you go round the rear of blk 14 you will notice a lot of demolition work has been carried out, on the 3rd floor up.
was this lighting of the blk 14 to take a lot of strain of the foundations (cellars)
strange how the camp was given back to the local "council" and not handed back to the german army.!!

Trust me my friends the demands of a Chinese wife overwhelm compared to writing on ATS. The benefits far outweigh if you catch my drift! Nice to meet a former fellow resident of Taunton barracks Foxhoundone. Did you drink in Snoopys? I used to date the owners daughter, many a long night playing shock till the early hours. I remember that the former regiment being an Artillery unit, a locating regiment if memory serves. Anyhow there's not much else I can add to the barracks story, but I can give you some information on the train station used to transport the Jews to Belsen. It was located in a small village to the east of Celle called Wesendorf and had a small REME workshop set up in the grounds the whole of which was surrounded by a wire fence. This was located in the centre of a German army camp and was used by my regiment for the purpose of a listening post. Only two people manned the station at a given time and it was manned 24 hours a day all year round. The shifts were rotated every morning. The two man team consisted of an Electronic Warfare operator and his personal guard. The operator was sealed behind a large steel door on the second level at the end of a corridor which is where the former Nazi admin offices sat. The lower level or platform consisted of a holding area where the Jews and Poles and criminals, undesirables etc would wait for trucks to transport them to Belsen. three large sliding doors separated this area from the platform. There was one more level below with rows of cells and a gallows at the end. I mention this because I had read recently of trains being kitted out in the US to transport the population to the so called concentration camps and each car had a guillotine at the end. I didnt necessarily believe it but it brought memories of these cells and the gallows back to me. Now to get to the point, I only volunteered to do one duty at the site after hearing rumours of the sightings of other soldiers who had been there regularly and its history. You pretty much had a free reign to walk around and was encouraged to do regular patrols so I spent most of my time exploring. The overall feeling was immense sadness at what had obviously happened in the war years. Around 1700hrs I had settled into the guard room to read when I heard someone in the kitchen opening drawers and walking around. The EWOP was not allowed to leave his equipment so I went to investigate and found the kitchen empty, I reported it to the officer and he ordered me to do a full sweep of the building and the grounds. It was getting on abit and the light was fading so I sat at the base of the stairwell for an hour then went back to report all's well and retired to the guardroom. An few hours later as Im switching my gaze from my book to the mirror which gave me a view of the corridor I saw two figures enter the corridor and slowly approach the guardroom. They looked like shadows and they had the outline of men but were missing from the knee down. I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things, looked back up and sure enough they were still there. I wont go into what I did next as it would cast aspersions on my bravery.but I never volunteered to do another guard duty there and continued to hear the stories of my comrades who did. About a month before my posting I drove the replacement duty out and saw the army had built a separate building and stopped using the station. I was informed this was because there was a shortage of men prepared to stay in the station. The reasons Im sure you can guess at. I mention this because it shows the military acknowledged a phenomena and spent a fair bit of money to avoid it continuing and its connection to Belsen and Celle. I've heard many stories from credible witnesses which never seem to get into the public domain. Hopefully this might encourage others to come forward with theirs. Next time I'll let you in on some infromation regards the Spear of Destiny. CaptGhost might already know about it

i drank at the milk bar in the town centre and used to skirmish back to camp via the old back gate to hide from the greenjackets who had a habit of superglueing your fingers to shop windows. lmao those were the days,
remember active edge what a laugh, most of the pads(married folk) would hide when the military police called to pick them up!!. do you think we stood a chance against the soviets me thinks not left most of our gear in the camp, did you notice the extensive rebuilding work around the back of blk 14 , personally i think its to lightin the load on the founds (cellars)
did you know that about 500 jews escaped from the railhead and were captured an brought to 77 street for formal execution, lovely old camp will have to revisit some time and see if you can get down the cellars(not me
