Yes, here in Finland I knew this 5.5.2009 new EU meeting one month ago. Nobody knows what they try to do. Somebody calls it "telecoms package". Here is some links:

EU members reach compromise on telecoms package
Wednesday 29 April 2009 | 05:03 PM CET

www.telecompaper.com...

The EU institutions have reached a final compromise on the telecoms reform package, the Czech EU presidency announced. The member states approved the deal with MEPs, paving the way for the legislation to go to a final vote in parliament on 6 May and receive the formal seal at the following ministerial council. According to a statement from the Czech presidency, the agreement includes plans to further harmonise policies on radio spectrum use across the EU, lay the groundwork for investments in next-generation networks, authorise the use in exceptional circumstances of functional separation of incumbent operators, set up the new Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications and enhance consumer protection in telecom services. A final sticking point in the negotiations was a proposal from some MEPs aimed at blocking certain member states' plans for restricting internet access for illegal file-sharers. According to the Czech presidency, the compromise respects the member states' legal rights while also protecting internet users in line with the convention on human rights.

Good job Miss Chilliwack. I had a very strong hunch you'd do it. Thank you for that!

While we're at it, I'm asking every Canadian who reads this thread to get involved by making your voice heard. Make no bones about it. Let 'em know that even the slightest bit of censorship, even the tiniest bit is absolutely not going to be tolerated. The powers who want to control the internet will use the excuse that it's to protect our children from porn. Don't fall for that lame reasoning. Besides, if we were to agree to that... Pandora's box will have been opened and the censorship will only increase on a geometric scale after that.

We must not allow ANY censorship. Fellow Canadians (actually everybody who reads this, no matter what country you're in) I'm begging you to participate like mystiq is going to do, and make your voice heard here:

www.saveournet.ca...

We must not allow this to happen. The internet is our last hope i think. Its a way we can stand up for what we believe and still have the high ground. We can use it to get the truth out and to find the truth for ourselves. If we had to rely on taking to the street to get our messages out there it would result in us looking like Crazys (which is prob what they want) and even if it didnt make us look this way and ppl started to wake up we would prob end up like Bill Cooper.

By the way how can i support you on that website. I had a quick look but could not figure it out .

Anyway the world has been asleep for too long and were finally starting to wake ppl up so lets make sure they dont do this.

Peace

Funny right now there is local tv news about subject. They say no big changes is coming.

One example: local phone / internet operator could stop access to Skype because it gives free phone calls (not here in Finland but some other country could do this..).

In Finland they don't like we play internet poker (money going other places). So they maybe will stop access. Not funny..

I dont think the people will let this happen. How can u just do away with the internet? Thats a loss of alot of jobs. A lot of data gone. Last time i knew, youtube shared 303 Terabytes of info (303,000 gigabytes). Which is 3 times more then the CIA has. Too much work was put into the internet.

I'm afraid it's too late. People have no say-so in the matter. I'm sure this will be a global set of regulations proposed by the G20.

I live in the US and have been furious at my IP provider. Since I live rural I have 2 choices, dial up or satellite .

They run it like a phone company. I am only allowed to use a certain amount of bandwidth or megabytes per day. If I go over they slow me down to a tortoise for 24 hours.

I'm not allowed to watch many news brodcasts you youtube video clips. I'm very serious. When they slow me down it is truly slower than dial up.

I heard comcast and other large providers will do the same soon. It doesnt regulate which sites I visit though, not yet anyways!

it sounds kind of communist if you ask me! I think we are headed for some troubling times.

I agree ATS and other such sites would be banned.

I wonder if they will impose criminal penalties to those that hack around their wall?

I don't know how true this news is but I have already stated somewhere in ATS that the mass should try to build/have/control their very own internet/ISP.

It's not impossible but you got to push very hard for it. It's a matter how bad do you really want it.
f

well since we the people invented and built and formed the internet, and also keep it running, the internet is really in our power.

We would just have to globally create certain online outposts dedicated to preserving the internet and moving all the data from this one, onto the new one.

We the people would own it, no shareholders or corporate jerk faces.

This would probabaly involve getting hackers on our side to protect us as a defense group.

May be iffy, but I would assume some would support the people's cause.

How this could all happen I have no clue . That is not really my specialty knowledge wise but it could happen.

However, citizens do have quite a say, and they are paying huge amounts of money in a multi trillion dollar world wide industry, to say the least. We can raise quite a stink about this in large numbers, it can be taken to court, over and over again even, as well, and this is important, we can refuse to elect anyone who does not stand for net neutrality and if they lie, they get booted forever. What we really need to push for is a far more inexpensive, high quality internet, saving the cables for back up, such as bouncing wireless routers off the satelites!

On the top left corner of the page that opens you'll find a button that says "ACT! What can you do?". Click on that button and a second page opens with several ideas and links. Pick anything you like and just act on it. I'm not affiliated with that website, but I support it. And it sounds like you are going to do something as well. I hope you do, and thanks for your interest
