Just wondering why this is in the Swine Flu section??

But yes, I read that article earlier. Honestly they have been saying similar things for years. Kinda like how we're always running out of oil. Peak Bandwith. Anyways they'll just up the capacity at the main hubs, run some more cable and flip us with the bill.

Thats a scary thought. What happens when the internet runs out of banwidth? hmmm

I guess they should delete some of the porn. That outta clear up about 90% of the bandwith. And anyways, nowadays it isnt that hard to add a few thousand terabytes to a server.

Actually, porn only makes up 5% of the internet.

I assume spam and other annoying marketing makes up 90%, looks to the right sees ATS marketing.

Uhh, the difference between the internet and finite natural resources is you can build more infrastructure with some investment in a few years. Oil takes millions of years.

The more people use the internet the better, just means people are getting more varied sources of information and not being limited to MSM. We are gaining ground in the infowar.
Of course much of it is looking up porn and mindless BS.

I was just using it as an example, not saying its actually the same. It just seems like the same kind of scare tactics.

Lol I bet porn makes up quite a bit of the internet. More than people admit / know.

This is so utter crap. It's like saying internet is like a natural ressource.

Come on. We now you want to kill internet and impose your control on the new.

I can see it now.

"Because the Internet is slowing down, we have decided to shut it down immediately. Next week a new network to be run by DHS, will be set up and ready to go. It'll be faster, safer and no porn." -TPTB

Yeah I can agree with that, rockafeller and his ilk want to control or dismantle it and they spread propaganda like how chinese terrorists will take down our power if the internet remains a free distributor of information. Wouldn't it be better if it was just one big state cheerleading/corporate advertising tool?

Heres an interesting chart of the usage of internet bandwidth from New Scientist

...of which email only accounts for 6% of bandwidth (which consists of 78% spam
)
but still normal web surfing and P2P downloading are the major components.

Another theory is that this will be used to try and ban Bittorent, Limewire etc forever. They may say that overuse of filesharing is compromising the structural integrity of the entire internet. Equals, more money for record companies and studios. I always find that the first question I ask when something looks fishy is who stands to benefit. Follow the buck.

Lol, that's complete bs, i don't know how anyone can believe that the bandwidth will end, the same people who own the cables under the ground have to make excuses, i remember watching something a few years ago about the amount of this bs, i'll see if i can find it ^_-

Utter bollocks this story.

First, there is no such thing as "the internet", so quite how it can run out of bandwidth is beyond me.

Secondly, Telcos such as the one I work for are constantly improving their networks. With some of the kit we have been putting in over the past 12-24 months, our bandwidth availablity has sky rocketed. We have single cards that have the same bandwidth as whole multiplexors from a few years ago, and these cards are in muxes that have whole shelves of them.

The internet is a series of tubes. Its not a big truck, its not something you just dump something on!

www.youtube.com...

We will never run out of tubes, they keep making more and every year they get bigger and better! Just get rid of spam and boom....more toob!

Maybe this will be used as an excuse for governments to begin regulating or restricting access to the internet. It could be a possible first step towards controlling the dissemination of information.
