Thanks for replying. As you say, it's only about a month old which is why I don't quite understand all the hype surrounding it - it really hasn't
infected or even killed a very high percentage (yet) so it just seems a bit odd. I suppose my main concern is that it's actually worse than is being
reported and we're just slowly being drip fed information so we're desensitised and won't panic when the higher numbers are eventually reported.
My other theory is that those green economic shoots weren't happening and this gives 'them' a get out clause by saying that the bailouts were
working but because of this new flu they're not working now.
I don't know - just seems a lot of hype over something not too damaging (so far). I hope it stays that way.
Very interesting statistics on the Spanish flu - I didn't realise it only killed 2.5% of those that got it. That's kind of reassuring to know as
it's often reported as if it swept through and killed millions as it went without detailing just what the fatality percentage actually was from those
that had the illness.
Yes you’re not likely to die from Swine flu even if you get sick. I doubt the economy has anything to do with this, we expect this type of thing
every hundred years or so. I for one think the current coverage “hype” helps serve to mitigate the spread of the virus. If you’re scared you are
damn sure not going to expose yourself if you can avoid it.
Let’s hope and pray this thing doesn’t spread far and wide, and that if it does that it doesn’t do so very quickly.
I really hate to say this, but if anything the media will cover this up (

They will undoubtedly cause alarm which I think is a good thing, but will likely not be willing to cause true panic and face possible litigation (they
are very unlikely to report any cases that are not reported through the proper channels. CDC etc.). I certainly hope the virus is not wide spread at
this point, but there is some information which suggests that this is the case. The head of Arkansas' infectious diseases branch has said he believes
that swine flu has already spread across the state. However, no cases have been verified.

I have some theories as well. None involve the economy though. I personally think this bug comes from the largest pig farm in Mexico and is a direct
result of vaccinations given there. Could be that this was purposeful, but it’s more likely a mistake or criminal negligence.
