Hip Huggers = Jail Time

No lie, low rise pants may soon be illegal to wear in Baton Rouge, La. Why? Because State rep. Derrick Shepherd was "tired of catching glimpses of boxer shorts and G-strings over the lowered belt lines of young adults."

Despite whether or not its tacky,this is an extensive punishment. You can have a dress code in work, school, certain restaurants, buildings, etc. There's already a public decency statute. Isn't this stepping over the line a little bit?

And supposedly, "if parents can't do their job, if parents can't regulate what their children wear, then there should be a law.''

Huh???

Just thought this was an interesting little hit of info there, plus I know several people who live in Baton Rouge...I wonder how they feel about this...

For 30 plus years I had the pleasure of enforcing dress codes on young people. I was never very effective at it, but as policy had to give some lip service to the duty imposed by school boards and administrators.

What did I learn from the futile experience? One, the person who sees it as a problem, is a problem. Two, you cannot mandate waistlines, beltlines and the minute you forbid something, you open the floodgates to reactionary behavior.

Not only that, wait two seconds and you'll have the ALCU on your ass big time. LOL

IMHO, only those who have NO lives can possibly find the time to actually NOTICE what other people are/are'nt wearing, and to these people I say "get a life !"

I have a sort of acronym that I like to trot out for the terminably nosy. It's called "Nunya" which means "None ya #in' business".

Many. MANY Pod people need to take heed, cause those of us who value our personal choices and private lives are getting seriously fed up.

Lets start with the people on TV. Parents do not know what their children are watching. Heck, you see this sorta stuff on channels that are supposed to be kid friendly.

Many people do things and wear clothing to be someone else and look like someone else (read: Britney, Christina, etc). If you don't want people dressing like that, first step is to get it off TV. While your at it, take those dang sexual enhancement drugs off the air as well. The new cialis comercials are more sexually explicit than cinemax.

What's the point of trying to regulate what people wear. Like pisky said, there are many other tings going on in the world, and the United States at present, and they come up with this? Man.... this is almost equivalent with the law banning female genital peircings in Georgia...

My 20 year old college student daughter wears nothing but hip huggers and she looks beutiful with them, about the G-string she thinks is nasty to show that with your hip huggers, I have been reading your answers on this post and I hit me again that we the people have not say so when It comes to politicians desicions on how to dominate us better and take our liberties also.

This guy has obviously taken one ride too many on the pretentiousness turnpike. He's probably ultra religious, too.

These are the kinds of people that I would like to visit while they're sleeping, subdue with ether, un-carefully remove all finger and toe nails, and scrawl "HA-HA" in big block letters on their wall in blood.

I'm just glad there are politicians that have the clarity of reason to try and protect us from the evils of jiggly cheeks. It's not like there's a couple million militant Muslims who want to kill us all, or anything.

Actually...I think Mr. Shephard might fare very well in politics in another country. I'm sure that in most middle eastern countries women would be tortured and killed for the shameless atrocity of low-rise jeans. As a matter of fact, Pakistan may just be the place for him, as they're so repressed that they can't even stand to see a woman on a billboard advertisement!

My point is, this amounts to the same repression we're trying to change in the rest of the world, right in our own backyard.
