Ugh... I have to give my response on this.
First of all, all the people saying "Millions are going to die!! All your family and loved ones will die slow, painful deaths at the hands of this
disease!!!11!!1!!!"
They need to calm down and stop spreading fear.
Heres some things I would like to know about these 68 Mexican deaths:
1. Where these people lower class or poor?
2. Did they have any kind of healthcare?
3. Did they go to a doctor or just assume they had a cold or regular flu?
4. If they went to a doctor, were they misdiagnosed?
5. Where did these outbreaks and deaths occur? Poor/rural areas?
These factors have a HUGE weight on the statistics. Perhaps these people were in poor health to begin with. Mexico isn't a rich country. Their food
and water sucks. Some rural areas are practically 3rd world.
8 people are 100% confirmed to have had this in the U.S. All 8 have already recovered.
I think the next few days will be the big decider. If all of a sudden thousands of Americans get sick, then we know it is spreading aggressively.
From what I have read, if you go to the doctor as soon as you get the symptoms and take some Tamiflu, you should be fine. Thats pretty much all they
did for the 8 Americans.
Besides, 68 out of 1,000 people dying is 7%. Thats 7% percent in a country with horrible food/water/medicine and healthcare. Many of those may have
not even gone to a doctor.
I'm not too worried. The only place I have to go here in PA is to my college classes for a few hours each day, and really no where else. Plus my
classes end in 2 weeks.
I think we will be fine. Atleast based on current data. Try not to panic too much. Stress weakens the immune system and makes you more liable to get
sick.
I'm not too worried. Although I did get stuck standing next to a Mexican family at Kmart today.
Oh well, they looked pretty healthy.
