I think what people need to realize is that the number's infected are rising very fast. The number of deaths will in all likelihood continue to increase. It seems to take most fatalities several days, if not weeks, before it consumes them.

Basically, I think the more accurate mortality rate could be figured if we had an average time till death. If it was 10 days, just look at the case count for ten days ago and divide that by the number of current deaths.

Does anyone happen to know the average time till death for those who perish? Is this stated anywhere? Until this is figured, I don't think we can begin to find the true mortality rate.

I have read of 3 cases in the last couple of days that the person passed on in just 1-2 days. Otherwise, it has depended on "underlying conditions."
Before that, it had looked like it was about 3 weeks before the complications got to them.

My sons and daughters go to high school, but the primary school of the same name has confirmed cases of swine flu. My kids school said there is no point in closing the school (the high school) because of the significant number of cases involved. That doesn't make sense to me. Obviously brothers and sisters from primary school are going to pass this on to high schoolers.
I just don't get the reason for no closing the school. If there are "significant numbers" of pupils infected, isn't that MORE of a reason to close it down?
I'm in uk, by the way, middlesex area.

One or two days! Wow, sounds like the cytokine storm. I wonder if this has mostly to do with an individuals genetics, or if it's a more virulent strain going around. Maybe a combination of the two.

Kiora Imago Dei,

You might have posted the wrong link above. That one has nothing to do with NZ or swine flu immunizations. Its dated Feb 2009, by UN about global immunizations. ???
There is no current immunization for swine flu.

The above story is dated June 2. Several hours after this story came out another one was released:

Scientist denies linking H1N1 to NZ
tvnz.co.nz...

"The American scientist who supposedly said the swine flu virus may have originated in New Zealand says he was misquoted.

Professor Gus Kousoulas, from the School of Veterinary Sciences at Louisiana University, says a US publication got it wrong.

He says there is no basis currently to support a New Zealand origin.

He says while scientists still don't know where the AH1N1 virus came from, a US or Mexico origin is more likely."

Here is a fourth case-

Second death in Australia

A 35-year-old man has become the second fatality in Australia associated with influenza H1N1. The man reportedly had underlying medical conditions. He was from the state of Victoria, was hospitalized on June 19 and died the following day.

Updated: 23 June 2009

Is it mutations or is antigen shifting a sci fi term?...not asking about the biological terms, I basically understand them, but they start making my eyes cross.

No, they have all ended now. I can't imagine what the reason is really. Especially because the holidays are so close and the kids have finished anything important.

Philippines closes Congress after H1N1 virus death

MANILA, June 23 (Reuters) - The Philippines closed down the lower house of Congress for five days on Tuesday and sent about 3,000 workers home after cases of influenza A (H1N1) were reported in the offices, officials said.

www.reuters.com...

Things seem to be building up a momentum globally, especially in the US.

Note the numbers we have are the official reported numbers, not the actual numbers. I know for a fact we have H1N1 locally where I am at but it has not been reported by the media or CDC.

That media blackout in the USA is quite worrying. It may be a sign that things are going to get much worser and TPTB are just delaying the panic in order to have time to get prepared for a total disruption of normal life when people start litterally to drop dead on the streets.
Anyone who is not out of his mind would believe that all of a sudden there's no more deaths linked to H1N1 in the US, after an average of 10 deaths a day in the last week. My opinion is that they know something that is too scary to let the populace know. I think we still have a month until things get so unbearably ugly that it'll be impossible to be hidden.

On NZ tv the other night showed pictures of doctors and nurses administering a flu injection all whilst wearing masks.

Listen folks I dont really care what any of you have to say about my posts on this thread, your all lost and letting the media tell you what's going on. Give it a rest, 9400 posts of mostly rubbish. Less than 1% of the posts here have any value at all.

Reuters? For goodness sake, any informed person knows who's running that act.

We were actually commenting on the link you provide regarding Swine Flu vaccinations in NZ - the link was wrong. And unfortunately a vaccination is not yet available for the current A/H1N1 - neither in NZ or anywhere else right now. They are working on it though!

Re: NZ TV news - You thought that our Doctors in NZ are immunising us against the Swine Flu because you see them giving flu shots with masks on? ??

You might be in NZ, so sorry if you realise this already. But for the benefit of others, we are now into our winter, so we are still administering regular seasonal flu shots. In fact, we have ordered more shots in an effort to vaccinate more NZers. Their theory is if more people are covered against seasonal flu, there will be less strain on the health system when more people seek medical help for H1N1.

We can only hope that thats the case.

These can be categorized as two different types of death symptoms.

The one that happens within a week of original infection in an otherwise mostly healthy person, is probably SARDS/SARS/ARDS and or organ failures. Cytokine storm.

The death that happens three weeks later is a complication of the H1N1 virus lowering the immune system so significantly that one is now likely to catch/develop other problems such as viral pneumonia (which H1N1 seems to be triggering more of), bacterial pneumonia, another flu, secondary infections of other types.

I have made it clear I dont really care what the media have to say on this issue, because I dont believe a word of it. However regardless of what they where injecting which as you say was simply the common flue injection, this is the slant and waht was reported in the story, IE SWINE FLU = MASKS = Injections, all programming for people to receive a swine flu innoculation in the near future.

Hey guys here is a swine flu tracker:

flutracker.rhizalabs.com...
As you can see the U.S holds the most infected at 25999 with 119 deaths.
Also there is a 3rd person to die of swine flu in Australia:

Third Australian Dies With A/H1N1 Flu

CANBERRA, June 24 (Bernama) -- A 50-year-old woman in Victoria with life-threatening cancer has become the third Australian to die with A/H1N1 flu.

"The woman died early Wednesday at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center, where she has been a long-term patient receiving treatment for cancer," Victorian Health Minister Daniel Andrews said, reports China's Xinhua news agency.

The woman is the second patient at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Center to be diagnosed with the A/H1N1 virus.

He said a second patient with A/H1N1 flu was receiving appropriate care.
