The swine flu virus that has frightened the world is beginning to look a little less ominous. New York City officials reported Friday that the swine flu still has not spread beyond a few schools. In Mexico, very few relatives of flu victims seem to have caught the virus.
One flu expert says there's no reason to believe the new virus is a more serious strain than seasonal flu. And a federal health official said the new flu virus doesn't appear to have genes that made the 1918 pandemic flu strain so deadly.

(CNN) -- More than 100 students at St. Francis Preparatory School in Queens, New York, have fallen ill recently. Some have tested positive for swine flu, health authorities say.
At least 50 people in the United States have contracted the virus, officials say. Some of those who tested positive at the New York high school recently went to Cancun, Mexico, for spring break.
By Tuesday, the number of deaths believed attributable to swine flu climbed to as many as 152 -- all of them in Mexico. (Twenty-six cases, including seven deaths, have been confirmed in the country.
A probable case of H1N1 Influenza, better known as Swine Flu, has been identified in Liberty County. Further testing is being done at the state level.

News media showed its capability to cover a breaking story but gave few details that clarified the origin, risk and action that should be taken. Personal media, such as Twitter and blogs, put out huge numbers of rumors and unsubstantiated claims. Some groups used the forum to expand their agenda through newslike stories and conclusions.
