2 more swine flu deaths in USA - El Paso, Tx

The victims were a 24-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man, officials added. Both individuals died while receiving treatment at a local hospital. Laboratory tests confirmed both had the novel H1N1 Swine Flu.

Anyone knows how many fatal swine flu victims are there in the USA now?

Swine flu has just arrived since yesterday in (as far as I know from internet):
1. Paraguay;
2. Uruguay;
3. Venezuela;
4. Estonia;
5. Wales;
6. Hungary;
7. Bolivia.
And the virus is flourishing in all the southern hemisphere, it's in every Australian Territory and there are more than 200 infected with 2 critically ill in Chile. In a week from now, the virus will be in more than half the countries in the world.
If this is not a pandemic, what could be? A pandemic is declared only when people start dropping dead in hospital lines??

Thihnk that so far today we have a count of 110 plus the 2 poor souls in El Paso, and the third man from IL this morning.

The virus has now killed more than 110 people around the world, according to individual governments. PARIS Source

It is difficult to tally because there are "confirmed" numbers and those in the process of being confirmed. The WHO site lists today in update #41 as 99 deaths. Who. So I guess we are forced to use the WHO number for now.

It is a pandemic they are worried about panicking the already WEAK economy of the world and having countries further block imports/ Yes that is happening!
We have had absolutely NO news about the flu here for WEEKS and there is a second wave going through like you wouldn't believe around these part's. You say flu here and people just cough some more and deny it!
I am glad I got the 3rd wave before everyone else at least I am starting to feel better now that I have gotten past it. All in all I am feeling 100% better than what I was a back from the 9th when I had to go in to the ER. Finished all the med's and they seem to have actually worked this time. I am still having some minor congestion in the morning and a small amount at night when I first lay down, but it honestly may be left overs from the steroid use for almost two weeks. SO it looks like round three may be the end of it! All I have left is a little congestion and some pulled muscles still from when I was coughing all the time
(never knew you could pull your hamstrings coughing like mad
) xoxo

Too sneaky by half: plan to keep local Australian doctor numbers low, assorted documents, 2009

The Australian Department of Health and Ageing (DHA) has set out to constrain the number of doctors graduating, despite supply shortages which have seen the country poaching medical staff from the developing world.
A FOI request executed on the DHA returned among other documents, document C160.
A portion of that document is blacked out because the DHA claims it was contrary to public interest to reveal the information.
The DHA action serves to highlight the Deparment's political sensitivies.
Another FOI was executed on the University of Sydney and returned a copy of the same DHA document—but this time, without the blacked out text (C170).
By comparing the two, we can see what the DHA was trying to hide:
"As you know, the Commonwealth is working towards containing the overall numbers of medical students graduating, "
The part after the comma reads,
"while encouraging special initiatives (such as the Medical Rural Bonded Scholarships) to deliver more doctors to rural communities."
But another DHA document, similarly obtained from the University of Sydney, C175 states:
"As detailed at the time of allocation around 80% of total HECS funded medical places offered at each medical school continue to have no restrictions on where the doctor concerned can work."
The DHA FOI did not return C175 at all.

.

Seems like with new pandemics breaking around the world and even a ebola like virus lujo poping up they wouldn't be trying to cut the number of doctors but add to them.

Member of Obama’s advance team in France has swine flu

Paris - A member of the US delegation in France to prepare President Barack Obama’s D-Day visit to Normandy has been diagnosed with swine flu, French authorities in the city of Caen said Friday.

US official in France diagnosed with swine flu

PARIS (AP) — A U.S. official in Normandy to prepare President Barack Obama's upcoming visit has been diagnosed with swine flu and is being treated in a hospital, French authorities said Friday.
Eleven other members of the U.S. delegation were placed in isolation for 24 hours in their hotel rooms and given medical treatment, said an official at the Calvados region administrative headquarters. The official was not authorized to be identified publicly.
The 54-year-old American woman was hospitalized in the city of Caen, and will remain for about a week, the official said.

.

I thought it was going to be another secret service member but instead it is a US offical who is sick. Wonder if it will stop his visit this time.

Might possibly be quite higher. If you look at link Hx3 provides on the El Paso cases, the officials didn't report them until 10+ days after the deaths...so it might be other areas have delayed reporting as well

New flu virus may bring summer of discontent

May 29, 2008 (CIDRAP News) – With summer temperatures settling in across the United States, health authorities are conceding that the novel H1N1 flu virus may continue circulating through the summer, rather than quieting down as seasonal flu strains do.
That could pose major challenges for surveillance of the new flu's spread, because some important disease indicators, such as school absenteeism, cannot be used during the summer. It will also tug research on the strain toward an aspect of flu that is not well understood despite years of inquiry: why influenza is a seasonal infection.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) signaled yesterday that it does not expect the novel virus to mimic seasonal flu's usual summer hiatus.
"There are some aspects of what we're seeing that are very different from seasonal patterns," Dr. Anne Schuchat, the CDC's interim deputy director for science and public health programs, said at the agency's Thursday press briefing. "This virus is circulating much later than the annual flu viruses. We're really not seeing much of any other seasonal flu viruses anymore. But we are continuing to see this strain circulate, even though of course we're almost at June."
Echo of pandemics past?
