I cannot access either. It tells me that that page cannot be displayed. WTH??!!

I've also been trying to open it all day and can't. maybe they have too much traffic.

Does anyone here know what the dormancy period for this is after infection, but before sympoms set in?


I am not able to find anything specific to the time frame for contagion, onset of symptoms and respiratory distress/death.

How many of you have looked at the pole on the forum page? This question was up before the flu thing ever started.

It looks like 40% of the people will have only what's in their kitchen if things go down hill.

Most are contagious several days before symptoms appear. That's why screening plane passengers for symptoms is dumb. People will have it and show no symptoms!!!

Very scary thought, regardless if your "paranoid", and I use that term lightly, you should automatically have some kind of supplies in case of any disaster. It is recommended to have a couple weeks supply, it is not that hard to save up for that! Whether the disaster to occur is a pandemic, weather related, or even terrorist related! It is always better to be safe than sorry.

Two weeks supplies might not be enough. As soon as word gets round of the threat people will panic buy and so once you run out agter two weeks and go to Tesco there may be problems. Also, once it begins it is preferable to stay at home . I for one would not really want to go venturing out to Tesco's after 2 weeks when people are catching the virus. I'm getting 6 months worth in - I look at it as buying in advance and nothing bad happens well it will get used anyway so there is no financial waste.
And if it gets really bad there will be prolonged food shortages so best to be WELL prepared not half prepared, even if this means using the overdraft or whatever.

Backstory: This was story was printed on 4/22 (2 days before Canada started blwoing the whistle), by a local Detrick paper.

Anyway, back to the rabbit hole; what if this is an bio-engineered pandemic release that allows for 'contained release' and it is multi-pronged with the agenda of getting Mexico under control?

I know I sound crazy, but let me see if I can spin this yarn....

Let's say there is a US bio-engineered strain that is highly pathogenic but has specific 'properties' that contain it by... let's say....

...Oh, let's say the strain is highly communicable but only for a set period of time, and it is then designed to mutate into something more benign. Risky no doubt as viral strains are notorious for their survival skills and craft, but let's just say it anyway... for the sake of conjecture...

It is released in Mexico in conjunction with Obama's visit -- who was being hosted and escorted around a museum director who died THE NEXT DAY with flu symptoms, so whatever that guy had was not what we are seeing here in the US (link is to a thread I put up).

Anyway, sub-plot subtle assasination attempt. Main storyline keep Mexico from falling into the hands of the drug lords, stop possible massive migration over the border (and if it looks like we have it here, they aren't going to be racing over) and perhaps soften up the ground for the inevitable NAU, as you know we want all that beachfront property down there nicely developed.

This yarn inspired by the question of why our strain seems more benign.

Call me crazy but Itook my wife and kids to Chillis, HOLY DUNG, the streets are empty so was chillis, we are home now but I guess everyone is scared.
My wife went to the supermarket early today and she told me it was empty, so tomorrow Ill go to Sams and the SM again to get even more supplies since the minister of health will speak on national TV explaining what the heck they will do next week..

GENEVA – The World Health Organization warned countries around the world Saturday to be on alert for any unusual flu outbreaks after a unique new swine flu virus was implicated in possibly dozens of human deaths in North America.

WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said the outbreak in Mexico and the United States constituted a "public health emergency of international concern."

The decision means countries around the world will be asked to step up reporting and surveillance of the disease, which she said had "pandemic potential" because it is an animal virus strain infecting people. But the agency cannot at this stage say "whether or not it will indeed cause a pandemic," she added.

When taken into the context, Margret Chan pretty much knows that the pandemic is on its way, and she knows very well the formula that says some 50 million people world-wide with not up to date immune system will die before the pandemic is over.

Hello Mike,

There is one very small point that you are overlooking here. The elderly also use more pharmaceuticals than anyone else (most take 6-10 pills daily) and the pharmaceutical companies probably could care less where the money came from (insurance, medicare or where ever). So they in turn lobby the government (I believe they are the largest group represented by lobbyist) and of course our representatives would never sell out their own country or taxpayer money just to line their own pockets would they? (bank bailouts?)

I think it would be rather difficult to target this group, if that was the plan, because they don't mover around much so the 'person-to-person' transmission wouldn't be as effective as say with kids.

Close the freakin border already.

I was just wondering, Cosmic Pixie about something I read ages ago - I think it was about 3 or 4 years ago now - when the English authorities said that if there were a pandemic (it was in regard to the bird flu threat, I think) they said all the major cities in England would be quarentined. Nobody in and Nobody out.

It sounded nightmarish, but it would stop transport of food, services - everything.

Do you know if this plan is still being considered?

The whole educational system in Mexico city meropolitan area nd A state (SLP) will close till May 6, people are advised to stay indors and go to work inly if they dont have any kind of symptoms and avoid public places and crowds.
