This is to announce I'm starting a thread covering daily layoffs from around the Country and World.

I'll try to keep it as up to date as possible...feel free to add in daily layoffs I might miss, after scanning through the daily list up to your posting point.

You also might want to re-scan things that catch your eye occasionally, as I'll add updates or linked story's to some listings as they become available.

My 2009 Depression Validated thread has larger Macro-Economic links...

I hope this thread is short, but, in these trying times, you just might see your community or employer listing here first...

Finally there is an index that counterweighs unwarranted exuberance based on government data manipulation.

I brought something for the thread warming . . . where did I put it . . . ?
Oh, here it is.

AP Sources:GM to shut many US plants up to 9 weeks

DETROIT (AP) -- General Motors Corp. is planning to temporarily close most of its U.S. factories for up to nine weeks this summer because of slumping sales and growing inventories of unsold vehicles, three people briefed on the plan said Wednesday.

The exact dates of the closures are not known, but the people said they will occur around the normal two-week shutdown in July when changes are made from one model year to the next. None of the people wanted to be identified because workers have not yet been told of the shutdowns.

Hey, spinky, what you are going to tell them? Any idea? Those dudes got big wrenches, so be careful about how you deliver the news to them.

I thought the same thing - only 7 -
but I also don't believe the numbers necessarily. That's just the realist in me.
And 7 is not good

I also think it's a different world -
so it's difficult to compare what is happening now - with any other time in history.

It'll take a bit of a miracle to turn things around.
Even if it all stopped tomorrow - no more layoffs - we would have a serious climb out of the dark. There will be sad stories. But with the dark - comes the light. People will get creative and resourceful.

And there will be more lay offs.

You know - it's just common sense - No nation can let go of this many people and not see some serious repercussions. It isn't on the mend yet - it is clearly still on the drop.

It isn't nice to tell lies - Better to tell the truth and let everyone attempt to make plans to join family - etc...

As I have said before - A good government would be helping people in a different way. Talk about survival - how to prepare - barter options.

Help folks to get simple while times are lean -
and give them a break wherever you can. Stop raping us.

This is leadership. And this is what we haven't learned yet -

I added the 26,000 - not to sensationalize - but because - for at least 2 months
there will be this many more people out of work - and collecting benefits.

that these folks can go back to work doing.

no link but Cardinal Scales Manufacturing laid off 25 employees after christmas, 50 employees in January. May 1 they will furlough another 50 employees, doing so will deny this group of 50 unemployment benefits.

I got this info from my mother today, she was laid off from there with the group of 50 in January. she went today to talk to some fellow co workers that are still working there and that's what they told her is coming up.

they also said the supervisors have to take up to 3 weeks off unpaid.
