I'm getting an xbox 360, a high def t.v., and a home theater system. Now, the t.v. I'm wanting to get has 4 hdmi hookups but just 1 optical audio output and no headphone jacks and the theater system I was getting has an hdmi hookup but no optical audio inputs BUT has a headphone jack. What I was thinking is can I hookup my 360 and theater system to the t.v. using hdmi cables and have everything work correctly? Could I use my headphones with those hooked up the way they are?

Yes you can. As long as the HDMI cables are rated for audio and video. There ARE some cheapy cables out there that are not rated for both. I would reccommend getting Monster Cables, they will run you around 70-80 USD but are some of the better ones out there.

Thanks a bunch! I was hoping for a confirmation before I spent over a grand without having everything sync properly.

That is stupid. I bought a 3ft HDMI cable for 12 dollars and it works perfectly.

Theres a battle raging over premium cables.Always has been but even more so now with digital content.
I can understand expensive cables for analogue signals but for digital signals I think its a bit of a hoax.
