I work with this Irish guy and his nickname is Lucky. This guy walks into a casino every weekend and walks away with 6k-12k and then blows it all on strip clubs, bars, drinking, fancy restaurants, etc.

So what is luck? Are people born with it? Can it be gotten? Are there streaks?

What is it exactly?

I think it may have something to do with what sports people call the zone.

Luck is a strange thing, and i do not think it has to do with karma, though like many say. I think the universe runs more on irony than karma, whatever that means.

I tell you if it wasnt for bad luck id have no luck at all.

I think we are born with some of luck but also our actions through out our life make our luck. Some call it karma i think.

I was born 13October1982 if you check you will see that was a Friday.

With my life experinces I have to confess, I honestly believe I may be the luckest and un-luckest man on the planet at the same time. Some of the things that happend to me have been extremly "unlucky" but I am also extremly "lucky" to have lived through them, with most of my fingers and toes left. For all that has happened just to be alive much less mostly unharmed says a whole lot about luck.

A good friend of my that passed a few years back told me something i will never forget. he said, "Pusket(that was my nickname, given to him and still used to this day) son if you ever right a book about your life it will have to be a fiction novel, because no one would ever believe half the $h!t you have done. I hardly believe them and I know they really happened."
This man knew me for 24 years from the day I was born. Ive always thought that is says something about the luck Ive had in my life.

Thats why i say that, that irony plays a bigger part in the universe than karma. Same here with the bad luck so your not alone.

I like to believe that Luck is when Hard Work/Preparation meets an Oppurtunity.

As for the guy with a gambling and strip club life. Well even a blind squirrel finds a nut every now and then.

Having known a few big gamblers... they tend to talk more about their wins than their losses. This gives the appearance of 'luck'.

I think luck is the toss of a coin.. quite literally... it's random. It's only superstition that gives one the belief that they are in control of it.

Ask paolo maldini from acmilan who has won so many football medals, what is luck, it is not a toss of a coin.

Some people make natural good choices, more than others. This is what makes good ceos, and leaders. How many times have you seen a good captain of a team, make a good decision, and he seems to keep making good decisions.

WTF? he won medals from playing well! Not from being fortunate. Did the medals say "worlds luckiest guy" on them? No!

Jeez!

I think I fall into the "extremely lucky" category. Granted some of my luck is due to just being observant and exploiting opportunities.
But I too have streaks in the Casino that can only be explained in the realm of mysticism. I play Texas holdem and I play with many, many players that have read all the books, have memorized the law of average tables and play a perfect game in all respects; at best I am just an average player but I pay attention to hunches and clean the "players" clocks on a regular basis. Some guys/gals refuse to sit at the table where I'm sitting. One other thing; I can feel in a very tangible manner when the streak is over and stop playing. I also never chase the streak by playin Blackjack, slots, Sports book, etc. When it's over go to the bar have a drink and chill. My GF always finds a parking place close to the front door of the Market but always gets in the slowest checkout line......go figure???

I think I should also add that I can spot a "loser" before he/she even sits at the poker table, seen him/her play, or heard them speak. They have an aura of "loser" ...... Poker is alot like life.

A few other lucky people and I have discussed our "gift" and we have come to the conclusion that a mindset of peace, love, humility and thankfulness actually attracts the luck factor. Try it, I think you'll like it!!

I am constantly astonished at the people that have a hateful, competitive, mean spirit and then whine when they are handed the ****y end of the stick.

How about his teamate, Clarence Seedorf. Suffered from heavy bronchitis as a young toddler. The doctor told his parents he wouldn't be able to play sports. Yet he has won for champions league cups with three different teams. Luck? Skill? Being at the right place at the right time? Or just plain good? Or did he subconsciously attract the right situations?

What is luck anyway? Are we just ping pong balls being played or do we (consciously or subconsciously) have a say in what happens to us?

His dad also played for milan, he had a choice to play for inter and he could of went there and missed out on all the success at milan. Top people in society think they make better choices than us normal people, whether you call this luck or what ever, there are people who make naturally better choices than others, fact.

I agree with seedorf, class player and both of them also speak very well.

I just think it is in the best captains, you see the ones making right choices at right times.

Like mourinho at chelsea and porto, was acclaimed for making great substitutions at the right time.

Luck has alot to do with choice making, and some people are naturally better than others, without a doubt. Look at richard branson, i would call him lucky, made a choice at teh right time, and now is very big ceo.

I think we are predestined to the path of our lives. Its like before we incarnate we are given the plan of some lesson we must learn during this "life". So once we get through it, hopefully we will have learned that lesson and can continue onto the next one.

Some people struggle their entire lives with everything. No matter the decisions they make things will just go wrong.

On the other side you have people who no matter their decisions or paths they choose things always and will always go right.

I know people on both sides. My brother for one, has struggled his entire life. He has made decisions that any of us would have made and has had the unfortunate result of the million to one shot of it going wrong several times in his life. He does not smoke or drink, exercises and works out doors, and now his health is collapsing at 47 years old.

I know a guy who was a drop out and yet he has managed to become a VP at a successful company. I have gone to the casino with this guy on several occasions and watched him walk up to a slot machine that someone has just dropped hundreds into and he cranks it 2-3 times and bam wins the jp. This has happened many times, and I just shake my head.

I swear money just throws itself at this guy for no reason. He is a pretty happy guy(no wonder) which also tells me the old saying that money cannot buy happiness is a complete farce.

Personally, my life turns upside down every 2-3 years since I can remember. I can almost set my watch to it. So I am always trying to find the lesson I am supposed to learn each time it happens.

That is a great way of putting it. I honestly think our luck is a mix between the two. I believe that our thoughts manifest themselves in our life. If you believe you will have good fortune then you will of course if you subconsciously dont believe what you are telling your self the you will not have good fortune. It has been my experince that my sub always wins over my consious. Just an example: If you wake up and know you are going to have a good day it usually is. Of course I may just be babbleing. I guess that is what the other members are for, to let me know if I am indeed just babbleing.

Luck is just another way of saying perfect timing on favourable circumstances, there's no such thing as luck my friend.

My understanding of luck is this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Luck is subjective and not measureable.
It doesn't exist. More or less.
