Who are you to say there are not TONs of BIG hearts here?? I mean really. Most people here are all for bettering the world and are actually conversing here in ways to figure out means to do so.

You cant take a entire group and say they are all here for the 'game' or self gain. Humans are made to not only learn from their own thoughts and experiences, but others as well. I guess you dont enjoy intelligent conversations...because this forum is FULL of them. Mabey you are scared to speculate and theorize about life and its purpose. Sure, there are know it alls....but we are all a planet called Earth that is full of them. You set yourself up for this thread....you proved absolutely nothing about this forum.

THere is much to learn here...mabey you are afraid to speculate and find the truth in between the lines.

Your posts was very judgmental.

My response as well as others proves nothing of the point you tried to make...unless you wrote your OP with intentions to show yourself as a know it all. The majority of the threads here will teach you something. Humans enjoy discussions, that is the point of being on this forum. Humans enjoy sharing experiences, humans with intelligent minds enjoy conversing ideas with like minds.

Depending of the topic of discussions you choose to look into, you may find more speculation then facts, and in other topics, you will find more facts then speculation.

Many are here because they want to talk with like minds and open minds. If you are close minded, this probably isnt the place for ya.

I try to better the world around me daily in my own way....and I know others on here that live for others and bettering this world.

Peace
LV

I'd say good question, booky!

I stumbled onto ATS through my curiosity about Situation X, World war, global instability, Martial Law, Fema camps, gov round-ups, panic, revolt, unrest, chaos, anarchy, resistance, revolution, survival, etc... and all that end-time scenario type of stuff, caused by the very greed, competition, and human's inability to agree w/eachother that you mention!!!

I found it!

But I think we're good for another few years or so!

Welcome booky.

Let me tell you something about perceptions. Due to mild dislexia, I read your thread title as : To All ATS posters .... FORM a Nuub. So, I'm reading the posts and asking myself "why isn't anyone asking what a NUUB is? " I'm thinking that it's some sort of acronym for a survivalist group that I've never heard of.

Okay, maybe you had to be there. I thought it was funny.

As to your OP........ like many, I come here to think, interact, exchange ideas and opinions with others who also are interested in/enjoy conspiracy and/or off-the-beaten-path information. Regardless of our chosen screen names and avatars, we're probably a fairly accurate microcosm of the global population -- or at least those with computers and internet access.

I like a good debate also, and this site encourages and fosters debates, as opposed to the usual insults and mud-slinging one might find elsewhere. Of course, that happens here too.

It feels like home -- short answer. One of my webhomes.

I come here to test the validity of some of the conspiracy theories I'm interested in while rebutting some of the claims made by some of the more out there individuals who post here. The secret is not to be afraid to object or disagree with a thread but to do so politely and without causing offence.
This would be a boring site if we all agreed with one another.

Perusing through some of the threads lately I can understand why you might be bitter from the get go. Frankly speaking I’ve seen some downright brutal threads and posts lately - people doing all but brutalizing others and showing little if any compassion and respect.

But that’s life.
That’s what you get when you put a whole bunch’a people in the same place.

On the other hand here on ATS I’ve read some of the most touching, open, caring and insightful threads - something you hardly ever find when you stick a whole group of people together in once place!

Do I agree one of the Worlds problems is how we treat others?
Yes...
People are far to eager to inflict hurt rather than build others up and I do believe this creates a global aura of fear, hate and paranoia.

So, really, give it a while, read a lot of posts, flag the people who are kind and post meaningful responses and make sure and follow them through their other posts.

Beyond that start making a difference yourself by being as open-minded, fair and respectful of others when you post - Once you’ve got into the habit of that it can only do you and the rest of us all good.

Welcome to ATS, I hope you enjoy your time here.

Thanks for the thoughts silo..I agree with you ....It is good to want to understand why a person thinks the way they do..you can learn something..there is an enormus amout of information on this site, some which is hard to believe. None the less,, however vague it may be it just might have some credibility to it..It just much easier to understand with out spitballs in it..

now I have posters I can rely on from their responses..looking forward to more thoughts so I can build a data base on compassionate people.

Sometimes compassion means telling someone the truth, even if it is not what that person wants to hear.
One only learns when they discover some fact that they did not already know. Having someone agree with you all the time is not a path to learning and enlightenment, but a path to the death of intellect.
Hegel's dialectic is the way to growth of the intellect and new understanding. From thesis comes antithesis, and from the two synthesis.

Peace.

I joined ATS after 2 years of almost daily lurking around the boards. I joined to be able to tell people what I thought, what my experiences are, and also what I thought about their posts.

I've been labeled a troll before, and I have to admit, when people state things, like how the universe was made, and they "know" it to be true, then when I ask honest questions like "can you explain how you came to that conclusion?" and all i get is some guy telling me, that he learned it. I take offense to that kind of reaction. I view ATS as a forward thinking forum for people that aren't exactly "in the box thinkers" almost like an underground community of people, but as soon as I get a response of "i know, because i know, and will never tell you" I get angry, its not respecting the great community, and the resource for discovery that we have in our little corner of the internet. People that often tell you that they know something, because they learned it, and then they wont attempt rationally to explain it, they are mocking what we have, just playing games with the rest of the community, and Im sorry, but people like that, need to get flamed, so next time they think about playing some joke, they might just think that they are going to regret it.

I think everything's been said that I could say except maybe that this site has the strange random information that is very hard to find but I enjoy reading so much. Even if I don't believe it there are part truths in everything if you know how to look for them.

The only time I get overly frustrated by people's ignorance is the current events page and that is usually about either religion, socialism, or 9/11. That's actually why I joined instead of just lurking like I usually do because some people just need to be told they're wrong (if not worse). Other wise it's usually healthy debate.

Hello OP, welcome to ATS firstly.

I can see why you would say that we are very competitive, but I think you have misplaced your idea. We are not competitive among eachother in the sense that we wish ourselves harm or want to bash and flame other members.

The problem arises when as one of the avove poster said we get into a tug of war between two specific ideas. Let us use Creationism Vs Evolution for example. Alot of these threads do eventually dissolve into a whose stick is better than who kind of argument.

However threads such as videos of UFO's or experiences are discussed by multiple members with very little incident. We do have an influx of new members that I have noticed so them not being familiar with a "mature" board like this one does pose a bit of learning curve.

The point is to be patient, if you are flamed by a member for a thought or a post, there are usually only two reasons. What you said is completely and utterly wrong and that person is simply pointing it out. The second is that they do not wish to see your side of the argument regardless of what you say because they simply "know" the truth about the matter. The ladder members are to be ignored, mind you they are few and far between.

Also it is quite easy to pick out the threads that will dissolve into screaming matches and the ones that won't. Look for threads with sources and well structured paragraphed ideas. These usually get the best response. The 3 line threads with a "hey this is how it is, cause I read it somewhere, at some point" are going to become screaming matches after the first person says "prove It".

Again , enjoy your time here, and just pick your threads/battles lightly. We have alot of passionate members and sometimes that passion gets the best of us.

~Keeper

Well as for myself, I joined ATS to experience the extremes of political thought; having noticed the international membership, I thought this would be a good forum to not only understand world opinions on things that matter in America, but also to understand the extreme divergences of political opinions in this nation. Further gaining insight by just reading and trying to understand; which is why I rarely post in a thread that is in diametric opposition to my own opinions or beliefs. By just reading those threads and concurrent post while remaining an observer, I gain insight and an incredible strengthening of my abilities to remain calm and keep my decorum – which needs a LOT of strengthening.

In the broadest sense, I'm just here to pass the time...the same can be said for everything else I do in life, in a way...

More specifically, I come here because the topics discussed tend to interest me. I'm not really concerned with arguing or attacking people or flaming or tearing down others' theories...to the contrary, I'd rather work WITH other posters to build interesting and insightful threads.

So many arguments that take place on message boards seem to be meaningless and ultimately rooted in subtle differences in the way way words and terms are defined. Or else false dichotomies, such as the following:

POSTER A: Hot is better than cold.
POSTER B: No way, cold is better than hot. Try living on the surface of the sun and you'll change your mind.
POSTER A: Oh yeah? Well, why don't you spend a night naked in Antarctica and then get back to us, buddy? I bet you'll be singing a different tune then.
POSTER B: Oh come on, give me a break. Light your sweater on fire and you'll quickly agree cold is better than hot.
POSTER A: That's garbage. Douse yourself in liquid nitrogen chilled to absolute zero and you'll think hot is better than cold...

...Etc etc ad nauseum, carried on forever. That's how I look at message board arguments for the most part. Building consensus is much more productive, satisfying, and meaningful on the net.

I have some of the same reactions/questions to ATS members as those described in the OP.

Saying that, I've looked and lurked on a number of boards, but, when I needed to ask for advice, I chose ATS to ask. I did so because despite the attack dogs and the immaturity and all the other negative aspects that show up here, I've found that ATS is by far the best place to run into people who actually DO rather than just POST. . .or just debate.

I've found information, learned new stuff and, every once in a while, I've actually found wisdom here. Can't say that for any other board out there that isn't devoted to a single, narrow topic.

So, since they don't hear it often enough, Thank You to those that created and those that maintain ATS. An even bigger Thank You to those caring and intelligent members that contribute some of their time to share their experiences and knowledge.
