Pakistani Taliban in Swat say won't give up guns

www.reuters.com

President Asif Ali Zardari, under pressure from conservatives, signed a regulation on Monday imposing Islamic sharia law in the Swat valley to end Taliban violence.

The strategy of appeasement has alarmed U.S. officials, while critics say the government has demonstrated a lack of capacity and will to fight the Taliban and al Qaeda.

Details of the deal have not been made public but government officials backing the pact have said part of it was that militants would give up their arms.

I'm glad the Taliban didn't lay down their arms. It shows that the Pakistani govt. just can't be trusted. I mean if you were in their shoes, you won't lay down your weapons even if the treaty says that you are suppose to. After all its just a piece of paper and the Pakistani govt. it hoping you give up your long term goal of a whole Taliban state instead of just a small piece of pie. You want the whole pie.

It shows that the Pakistani govt. just can't be trusted.

Do you know why that is though, that they don't have any faith in anything America says or does?

Because next door in Afghanistan you preach nothing but "democracy" and the "right to self-determination", while none of that seems to apply to the Pakistanis.

America bombs Pakistani territory at will with drones (Which have killed 687 innocent people by now) and then demands greater cooperation from Pakistan and more of an initiative to combat the Taliban.

That's a funny way of going about building trust, just bombing your supposed Allies into submission.

Pakistani efforts may seem incompetent, but that's only because they really don't have much they can do to stem the influence of the Taliban h in their autonomous regions.

Why do you think the friggin' Taliban are setting up shop all of a sudden in Pakistan's tribal areas?
Because America is driving them further West, and dumping the problem onto Pakistan.

It's no secret the most troublesome regions of Afghanistan are those bordering Pakistan.
And for good reason, America kicks the Taliban out of their hidey-holes in Afghanistan and they simply relocate to Pakistan.

A country that doesn't have 50,000 men it can spare to combat an enemy the world's superpower cannot defeat themselves.
