Workunit loss?

Topic started on 23-4-2004 @ 11:18 AM by chickenchecker0945

I was sitting here thinking about how seti monitor caches units? On an older computer if you have 5 work units cached from the server and your computer goes down i.e. permanent HD failure...Do those workunits ever get taken into account. or are they Gone into the digital graveyard (so to speak:roll

Hi, CC. Here is what the SETI@Home FAQ says about the matter:

What happens to work units that never get returned by us? Are they lost forever?

We keep track of every work unit that goes out - if it is taking too long getting the results back, the server will automatically send it out to somebody else. Only after we get results back and confirm them we will remove the work unit from disk.

So no worries. If the work units get eaten by one computer they will eventually get sent out to another.

You are very welcome. Was it just curiousity or did you have a PC mishap? It has happened to me more than once, but I am a fiend about doing back-ups, so I didn't have any real drama. If you are having problems, best of luck with them and give a shout if you need help.
