More than 100 people have been arrested in Nottingham over a suspected plan to target a power station.

Police said 114 men and women were arrested in Sneinton Dale on suspicion of conspiracy to commit aggravated trespass and criminal damage.

Officers said they believed those arrested were planning to protest at nearby Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station.

A spokesman said "specialist equipment" had been found by officers who feared a threat to the safety of the site.

He said police thought there was a "serious threat" to the power station.

The arrests were made at an independent school. There were no injuries.

'Real bedlam'

Residents in the suburb of Sneinton contacted the BBC with reports of a large police presence in the area.

Well, if you remember the climatecamp protests, they were seizing board games and childrens crayons. That's some pretty special equipment. I imagine this will turn out the same.

We did see some people with protective clothing, and gas masks and the like, things to defend against the police though, anything that makes it more difficult for the police will be seen a terrorist materials.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is really not something I expected to read about happening... here. It all sounds highly suspicious, and I can't help but feel it could actually be something rather serious going on here, but by who, I don't know. The large number of people makes me think it could be a so called 'false flag' or whatever it was people say 9/11 was.

Honestly though, but 114 people deemed as a threat? That is enough people to pull off a Beslan style attack in every secondary School in a medium sized town.

Something is not right with it!.....The media has not made a big fuss or anything about it so it just seems to me that theres more to it!

If any of you know that area you will know that there is a MOD complex not so far away but i dont know much about it....in my army days i knew it as somewhere were ammo and new rifles were shipped into....

I am from Wales but used to pass through that area every week when going on leave from army and the nearest village is a good few miles away from the powerstation if i remember rightly!

Wow, there's really not a whole lot of info out there on what happened. A quick google news search had about 100 or so stories, but they were all had essentially the same info.

A youtube search turned up nothing and there's no info on the Eastside Climate Action website either.

The way I understand this is that the police got a tip, probably from Eon, the people who run the power station about a planned protest. The police then acted on it and arrested 114 people!?

Sounds to me like the Eastside Climate Action group has a mole...

Specialist equipment is a deliberately vague and pointless non-fact.

A phillips-head screwdriver is a piece of 'specialist equipment.'

As is a church-key can opener.

UK indymedia are usaly clued up on stuff like this with regards to organized protests or groups etc but take a look......they are as much in the dark as the rest of us!

Yes, "specialist equipment" is an intentionally vague description.

A makeup artists handbag is "specialist equipment".

Specialist is a term used to politely describe anyone in any profession.
Waste disposal specialist : Janitor.
Projectile retrieval specialist : Golf ball collector.

And "specialist equipment" is equipment the above uses.

Well... that describes just about everything on earth.

There's something we're not being told. Well... heh... there's always allot we're not being told, but in this case there's something key that the public isn't supposed to know.

I see a potential false flag coming our way pretty soon!

None of this adds up and have tried to get more info on it all day....have spoke with the local rag in nottingham and they wont comment on the subject and any info i need can be accessed from there website which is saying the same as the BBC!

The BBC have updated the story but only a few adjustments here and there..........

I have a child who attends the Steiner school & received a phone call from the school Monday pm to say do not turn up Tuesday - the school would be closed.

The site is actually split into 2, the school and another part that has buildings and a car park - the school was not actually being used by the protestors, it was the other buildings they were meeting in.

Apparently, the registered keyholder of the school turned up to let the police onto the premises at the time of the raid but was turned away - the police then proceeded to break their way in, & went on a search & destroy mission throughout the school, smashing doors & confiscating school equipment. (I hope they didn't count the rocking reindeer as 'specialist equipment' & confiscate that, my kid really enjoyed it...!)

The school is independent & relies heavily on funding....a concern of mine is who is going to pay for the damage caused to the school....I bet it won't be the police...

A more major concern is the fact that 114 people were arrested for not actually having done anything...police confiscated 'specialist equipment' - this would appear to be a pair of bolt cutters & 'equipment for attaching themselves to objects'...ummm, padlocks then...?

It is shocking that the word 'terrorism' is being bandied about in this case, since when did climate protestors become terrorists? Next time I hear the word terrorism applied to a news story I shall be wondering whether it's anything more than someone dropping a crisp packet on the floor.

They were planning it and not actualy doing anything so would that class it as a THOUGHT CRIME?

I've just been up to the school to see if the nursury will be open as normal this week - it will be, but staff have had to temporarily relocate as the police have caused damage in the nursury, which didn't even have anything to do with the protests anyway.

As well as smashing in the nursury door, there is a stair gate that blocks access through the inner door - rather than open it (come on, it's not hard) it was lying in two peices in the middle of the floor - I had to laugh imagining the police trying to work that one out & then giving up & kicking it in!

These people have committed the crime of 'planning' to protest about the activities of a German owned power plant in Britain.

We are all aware of the recent events during the G20 convention.

Only weeks earlier The Police allowed these scumbags to march through Luton and preach their message of hatred openly and plan to protest again!

We no longer live in a free country; hypocrisy, deceit and double standards rule.

The Police have become a political tool and the PTB fuel our fears so that we ask for our own freedoms and civil liberties to be taken away from us.

Our every activity is spied upon and we are actively encouraged to inform upon our families, friends and neighbours for any transgression.

There is a concerted programme to limit our opportunities to meet and discuss anything unless strictly supervised.

We are actively encouraged not to think independently and the PTB will control how and what we think and learn through national curriculum and MSM.

My heart bleeds for this once great country and people.

What? Planning to illegally gain entry and occupy one the countries main Power Stations is a criminal offence, just the same as if someone was planning to raid a bank or even your home.

I bet you wouldn't bleat and moan if the Police arrested people for planning to commit your murder/robbery, would you?

Honestly, double standards indeed.....

A persons individual rights only go so far. It does not give you a green light to protest whereever and whenever you like. The power station is not only private property, it is also part of the critical national infrastructure. Allowing the demo to go ahead would have posed a significant risk to property, the workers and protesters and the Nation as a whole.

What if they had succeeded in shutting down the plant?

Do you know the kind of damage that could happen to the place if not properly run down?

Do you know what impact that would have had on National power supply?

I bet you'd have a different POV if the hospital your loved one was being cared for suddenly lost power and they croaked.

Oh, but no. Allow protesters do what they like. After all, this is a democracy so we should be able to do whatever we please, whenever we please, no matter how it impacts others. How silly of me....
