Exactly, habu....what you said. In fact, we are careful when changing the squawk codes to avoid any similarity to the '75', '76' or '77' in the
first two digits.
But, anyway....I cannot remember one time when I was instructed to change the squawk in flight internationally. 22 years....it happened often
domestically, of course.
I still think, as another poster mentioned, this is Israel we're talking about.
A missed ATC call with a frequency change....the one they're on (the last frequency) is out of line-of-sight range...no one can communicate, they
need to find another freq (pick one at random from the Enroute Chart...)
Meantime, ATC tracks them on their flight plan, they haven't deviated. Usually an attempt is made on the Emergency Frequency (121.5 VHF) which
should be monitored on the #2 Comm radio....
But, it IS Israel....so scramble some fighters....a bit of fun for the fighter pilots, some embarrassed airline pilots, and all is now well with the
World.
Nothing much to see here, after all......
