Clinton hails NZ-US relationship

tvnz.co.nz

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton says the relationship between the US and New Zealand is the best it has been in 25 years.

She says the US will work with New Zealand on regional initiatives to protect the environment and promote democracy in the Pacific.

Clinton also paid tribute to the efforts of New Zealand's SAS troops in Afghanistan and said New Zealand's military's help with reconstruction in the Bamyan province has been a model for other nations.

The credit for improved NZ - US relations belongs to the past Labour government and the Bush administration . Never the less it is good to see the warming of the relationship continue . The NZDF small presence in Bamyan province probably allows it to specialize more then the other countries military's who have a larger presence in Afghanistan. Cabinet would look at having the SAS make an additional deployment if the US was to ask for additional assistance from New Zealand . Taking further measures to prevent the smuggling of Nuclear material is a sensible measure all round .

As for the Skyhawks they should be donated to a museum or sold to a collector . As I understand it in there present condition it is unlikely that the Skyhawks will fly again . I am sure that Pacific Four Free Trade talks will resume after the Obama administration appeases it Blue Collar supporters by conducting a so called review of all such agreements that are in the works .
