I don't believe this is a legitimate poll.

I think it is just a contrived poll designed by the government and the MSM media to dupe Americans into believing that any act of aggression that is made against NK is being done at the behest of the average American citizen.

Amazing how they try to make us believe that they are only doing the things that the American people want yet when we speak so loudly and so clearly that their websites crash and their fax machines can't keep up with the demands from the American people they stand on the White House steps and tell us to our faces that they don't care what the American people think and proceed to do behind closed doors whatever they choose.

What is the difference? The difference is the need for our compliance. They don’t want mass rebellion when they start to send our husbands, neighbors and children off to the slaughter.

If we say enough is enough and no, we will not support nor will we participate in the start of any more wars. There are only a few things that they can do. Maybe that is a another use for those wonderful multifunctional FEMA camps.

I was refering to if we had knowledge that there was something dangerous on the rocket. No I have never fought in a war, but I am an Army Vet from the cold war. Also I work for the US Navy now. I don't believe in shooting and blowing things up unless it is necessary, just like I don't agree with Bush taking our troops into Iraq.

I understand where you are coming from, and I already said I do not advocate war.

I dont know about you, but I disagree with the proliferation of Nuclear weaponry. It is a very real and dangerous threat to our world. We must systmaticaly decrease the nuclear stockpiles all around the world, not increase them. Sometimes war is a means to an end...but it is very dangerous.

And of course America has never exported nuclear or military weapons to any unstable country.

Nuclear? No. Military? Yes.

We are just the rulers of the entire world. We know what is best for all the countries and people of the world.

I disagree entirely. We are the single strongest nation in the world, of course. But as a powerful nation, we should also lead by example. We should be a responsible nation. This covers a wide range of areas. Financially, militarily, and diplomatically. A nation that no matter how bad things are in the world, we remain a beacon of hope.

In regard to your question: I do not believe that we can afford to go to war with every country that operates as a dictatorship.

And I dont either. And that was not my question. However, we do need more international pressure. We need a united front to deal with such threats, America cannot do this alone, but I do believe the US can lead it.

If we are going to go that route I think that North Korea would not necessarily be a good starting point.

Well, what do you do then? Continue to sanction a nation that pretty much has nothing to lose? Sanctions only hurt the citizens of NK, not the corrupt leadership. And we have pretty much sanctioned NK to the point of no return.

Militarily, the NK's do not have the capacity to wage a conventional war. They do not have enough fuel for their armored divisions, nor the conventional weaponry to adequatly fight a war. So maybe NK isnt a threat? But wait, they do have that nuclear threat to fall back on...

First off, Neutron bombs do not cause nuclear fallout; after about 48 hours you can move right in and start making parking lots. Next, I would rather nuke terrorist nations than loose another single American life, OR the innocent lives of other democratic nations, to suicide bombers that set off their bombs in the midst of women and children, or the nuclear and missile terrorist suppling nations

You can cry for the ‘innocent citizens’ of terrorist nations, I’d rather be concerned for America and our Allies, thank you. If the people of such nations are so innocent, let them throw off their repressive governments and leave us the heck alone.

Sorry to deflate your tire, but that poll was conducted in June 8th, 2005. Which was prior to the surge, here is a more up to date poll (november 2008) that shows for the first time in years, more Americans view the Iraq War as a positive endeavor than those who have the opposite view.

Only problem with that sort of solution (and it is a solution, no doubt), is that lots of innocent folks who have absolutely nothing to say about it, or do about it, end up dying.

Japan and othe asian countries have reason to be concerned, however destroying an entire country isn't really the best option...

- You havent "win" a war since WW2
- Quaqmire of Afghanistan and Iraq is taking your childrens daily
- USA is the most hated country in the world
- Without 925 bases - there would be no conflicts to attend...

Please All American Idiots - Wake Up - Stop The War!

American idiots ?? This coming from a Fin, whose country took Nazi aid to save their necks for a few more days ?? Yeah, Americans are the "idiots".

What people like you need to understand is that there are somethings worth fighting for. To not fight and make deals with the devil like you Fin's did is nothing to be proud of or great but just cowardice. When will people like you understand that:

-Wars have always brought about the great technological and social progress in human history.
-Banks have nothing to do with war, America doesnt borrow from banks, so your naive 19th century understanding is BS.
-Since WW2, we have freed half of Korea, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Israel, Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. What has your country done since WW2 ?? NOTHING.
-Only 4500 Americans have died in Iraq after 8 years, which anybody who knows anything about military conflicts will realize is a GREAT bargain. Also, the people of Iraq and Afghanistan are begining to experience true freedom after decades. That is worth some sacrifice.
-Screw the HATERS. We dont care what the cowards in Europe like you think, you dont matter enough for us to bother what you think.
-Without American bases around the world, there would be pretty much perpetual war and despots ruling half the globe and billions of people would never be able to experience democracy.

Just think how the USA has influenced your own life. Without America you and your family would still be living in a vassal socialist state of the USSR where you cant speak anything wrong about the Communist party or the Soviet union and would probably be speaking Russian. Like you, there are billions of people in the world, who's life has improved because of the USA.

North Korea is just another despotic regime that is supported by other like-minded despots of Russia and China. We wont let them threaten our allies with the antics and threats of a crazed despot. Actions have consequences and those who pursue a path of recklessness should be ready to face its consequences.

As opposed to Peace-niks like you who preach from Ivory towers ?

As for "experiencing hardships", per capita more Americans join the military than any other volunteer army in any other nation. Americans have been exposed to more war than any other nation and we know clearly what the price of war is. We also know the price of not taking action.

Sitting on our hands like you advocate just for the sake of manufactured peace is foolish, idiotic and the hallmark of the intellectually & morally bankrupt. Peace for peace sake is what let despots like Hitler and Pol Pott come to power and that kind of perverse reasoning can only be preached by the naive and the craven.

IM shocked at how quick some people are to demand action.
While i realise they do not have the best track record they keep themselves to themselves and are not realistically a threat to the US or Japan.
When did they say they were intending to attack either?
Its no wonder they feel they have to defend every action with more banter.

North Korea's deputy UN ambassador Pak Tok-hun warned the council against trying to punish Pyongyang, insisting his country had only launched a satellite - rather than a missile - at the weekend.

If the 15-member security council took "any kind of steps whatever, we will consider this infringes upon the sovereignty of our country," he said, threatening "necessary and strong steps".[ex/]

Now if they just let them be and send songs into orbit none of this would be happening.
Too much propaganda being thrown around about this and its whipping up a lot of war cries which is uneccessary.

What you do not seem to understand is that the type of missile North Korea just tested was DESIGNED to strike Alaska, Hawaii or the west coast of the United States; do you think those psychopaths will not use them once they are certain they will work? Are you not hearing the rants of Iran's leader who thinks he will bring in the Muslim Messiah by nuking Israel? He has said MANY times that he WILL nuke Israel the minute he has the capability and North Korea is selling them their missile technology; they even had observers on site for the launch.

The tree huggers of America had better wake up and understand that we can wish for world peace and unilaterally disarm all we want, while of course being cheered on by European Socialist, but the enemies that have sworn to destroy us will not rest until the “Great Satan” (Iran’s affectionate name for the USA) is buried under those trees. I have been to several Islamic Nations and they HATE us and will not rest until we are either Muslim or dead. Get a grip and smell the coffee, its time to wake up.

Being an American, an intelligent one at that, i find some of the comments on this thread to be a little... hurtful to say the least. I dont think other countries understand that not every single American is an egotistical money grabbing fiend, just because it looks that way, doesnt mean it is. Back in the 1920's 1% of Americans held 60% of the entire WORLDS economy through monopolies and trusts... i guess that view has stuck to us ever since

I love the anti-American sentiment on this board. A few bored Europeans read one small poll that judges my entire nation based on a sample of 1000 people. Their response? They condemn us with verbal fire and angry mouth spit until they're blue in the face, and nobody else outside of the U.S. sees a problem with that.

570 people. I bet I could go to ANY COUNTRY ON EARTH and find 570 people out of 1000 who think their country should attack North Korea. Heck, I bet I could find 570 North Koreans who think North Korea should attack itself. It's just a matter of knowing how to pick a focus group. And believe me - pollsters know how to pick groups that will give the answers they want.

But who cares about common sense concepts like "Not judging an entire group of people because of the actions of 570?" We're talking about an excuse to spit ill-informed, prejudiced, and judgmental insults about Americans. No amount of common sense in the world can stop that!

I also love how 7 pages later, not a single moderator has taken action on the OP calling Americans "idiots." I'm sure if I called the OP an idiot back, I'd get a dumb red warning sticker or at least a deleted post.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear that they actually conducted this poll at the Springdale, Arkansas First Baptist Church.

Honestly, this MUST be an example of obviously manipulated polling meant to sway the thoughts of the people as a whole. "Tell the people that a majority of the folks agree with this and we'll get people who actually DO agree with it."

As for the folks saying that the US can't win wars, I would suggest that our military is being used improperly. Our Army's mission statement is very simple - "To close within and destroy the enemy."
Not, prop up "democratic" administrations that are doomed to failure at the very onset because you simply can't replace 2,000 years of feudalism with a carbon-copy of a system that requires people to be informed enough to maintain self-governance.

The US is the most powerful force on the planet. And most likely the most powerful force this planet has ever seen.
Too bad we let politics influence the way we conduct said wars. The Iraq and Afganistan wars are an example of a tough guy that wants to play nice with one hand and beat you on the head with another.
He isn't using the force of both hands.

You've gotta watch out for those Southern Baptists, man. I know, I live here.

In fact, today I was thrust into the middle of a land dispute between no less than FOUR crazy mofos fighting over the same 1/4 acre of property.

The old dude that we were surveying on was the most sane one of the bunch and he carried TWO weapons on him at all times.

One of the other three was a firefighter who has been convicted of ARSON!
Another was a dude who has been "at it" with the IRS for quite some time and doesn't leave his house without a .45.

The other person I can't form a good opinion on because she actually lives out west. Needless to say that after I had walked a fencerow looking for a section corner and returned to the truck to see one of the gents standing BEHIND his truck to us with a 30-30 laying on the hood of his truck (as if he had been sighting us in his scope while we were unaware), I took quite some time reflecting on how crazy the people here can be.

Hell, we aren't even surveying their land per-se. Merely doing some topographical work for a proposed water line.

So yeah, there are some folks out there who love the idea of war. They live it nearly every day... and these folks have nothing to do with the armed forces.

Your polling sample and size is very indicative of the legitimacy of the poll.

Can you now?
You been in combat or through "the hardships" of war? Please, feel free to enlighten us to your experiences. It might save you from the backlash of someone like me or a few others questioning your "I can almost certainly state if" rhetorical responses.

As such, there is merit in what PammyK said; I mean gee, if there was not, the Israelis would not have been openly contemplating such for some time now, would they? As for you, "I can almost certainly state" that the Israelis have been through "the hardships war induces;" better yet, they have fought quite a few wars.

Accordingly, I would wager my DD214, that if the U.N., as with Team Obama and company, continue to lack the back bone to force Iran into compliance, that regardless of your continued ludicrous defense of Iran's only and solely peaceful intent nuclear program, the Israelis are going to put a hefty dent backwards into Iranian nuclear aspirations and hopes....by "blow[ing] it up if necessary."

Yeah those 57% must not remember how fun that was the last time we did that.

They seem to forget that it's never just the North Koreans, the minuet we into North Korea we will be fighting the Red Chinese also. I wish they would read a history book. How about we let the useless UN that we are a part of make itself useful without us for once.

Send someone else's sons and daughters out to fight "our" battle for once (Yeah, like that would ever happen. Only America does that).
