I agree...I'd hate to lose any of those classic structures...

Sadly I fear we might hear of some damage later as it's accessed...

Oh...and as for Canada missing out on all the Eq fun...

Check this link out...seems Canada has it's own separate thingy for this...

Not making fun of the OP, but does any natural disaster that occurs HAVE to be treated as a conspiracy? Does any natural event take place without you thinking Aliens are behind it, or it's a big NWO weapon?

Well if Italy is rocking and Turkey, then i guess the next nation will be Greece, since all 3 countries have major fault lines which do interact with each other.

This reminds me of that old movie "Conspiracy Theory" with Mel Gibson, Julia Roberts and Patrick Stewart.

At the very end of that movie a news report mentions that the President was in Turkey and was evacuated after an earthquake.

Not that this is a conspiracy but I just thought that was weird.

My condolences to those lost...

I'm watching coverage now - 13:20 here.
It's horrific.

The news TG4 just reported we're waiting for the *Big One* - They believe this is a precursor to a much larger quake.

Dozens dead, many hurt as big earthquake hits Italy
www.reuters.com...

:snip:

Interior Minister Roberto Maroni visited the area and said the death toll had surpassed 50.

Luca Spoletini, a Civil Protection Department spokesman, said the quake may have made up to 50,000 people homeless. Some 26 cities and towns were seriously damaged.

In the small town of Onna alone, 10 people were killed, said a Reuters photographer who saw a mother and her infant daughter carried away in the same coffin.

Not to contribute too much to the "WooWoo"-side of things but, wasn't there a prediction or prophesy of some sort saying that the second-to-last Pope of the Catholic church would be walking through a destroyed Rome?

That he would be stepping over the bodies of the dead, and would thus be forced to re-locate the seat of the Church elsewhere, just before the Apostasy that would give rise to the Last Pope in the time of the Anti-Christ?

Could that time be near?

Selfishly I hoped someone didn't bring this up.
It’s on the tip of most everyone's tongue here.
I’m just really for today wanting to bury my head in the sand.
But yes, that is the general consensus here... The *Big One* will hot - Rome will be in crumbles, etc...

Yahoo news also reports of the scientist...

Weeks before the disaster, an Italian scientist had predicted a major quake around L'Aquila, based on concentrations of radon gas around seismically active areas.

Seismologist Gioacchino Giuliani was reported to police for "spreading alarm" and was forced to remove his findings from the Internet. Italy's Civil Protection Agency reassured locals at the end of March that tremors being felt were "absolutely normal" for a seismic area.

Hmm, could it be that the spirit of the earth itself is in the midst of a cleansing? Could it be the toxicity of the worldly karma is making it sick? As winter is the first season used to consolidate energies and spring begins the rebirth, perhaps a quiescence in solar activity is facilitating sole winter cleaning for a rebirth/renewal of the earth (or at least a cycle in that direction).

Sadly the death toll will rise alot over the next few days, An Earthquake hitting that low in depth is going to cause many more deaths as we are sadly seeing,

The death toll that im hearing now is up to the 90 mark, i fear this will go in to a few hundred as the days go on,

We can only hope that the aftershocks stay small so that they can get the trapped people out,

My thoughts are with the people of Italy,

Unfortunately, natural disasters can happen anywhere. My thoughts go out to the people of Italy on this one.

I lived through Katrina.

In many threads on this site, I see people speculate about things like body bags, and additions to cemetaries.

Why are are governments looking to death tolls rather than building up infrastructure with tax dollars to make citizens, safer?

I guess it's more cost effective to bury people, than to worry about our safety up front.

Sad........very sad.
