Nick_X,

Heck, you should start selling them to us American who smoke. I'll bet with shipping, even from Asia, it will be cheaper then what we are paying now. I would buy them from you with a markup so you could get some money just out of principle about paying the taxes. If a couple get nabbed in customs...so what? Let the state come after me for 'use' tax. That will be my 'Tea Party'.

I stopped smoking yesterday after about 30 years "on the puff".

And today I feel like death warmed up. Although quite pleased too that I'm through day one without major incident. Cigarettes in the UK are approx £5 for 20, unsure what the exchange rate is but expect it's about $8 per pack of 20. Way too expensive now, it's serious money & I just can't afford it. Good luck to anyone who's thinking about giving up.

But you folks are "only" paying $4 ?

Lucky you !!!!

Here is how i think my mind work's on this matter.

I would quit and not say one word..If i wasn't being forced via excessive tax to do it.

It's like one One side of America is NON smoker's ritch and make the rule's....They have been throwing rock's at us trying to piss off..to start a war..
As if they want America divided anymore than it is already.

And a small portion on the other side of the united state's...
Sit's lower to to dirt poor class folk's....
People who make 6 dollar's a hour feeding 3 kid's and does not ask for government assistance....
They deal with life by smoking a cigarette after 50 hour's of hard physical labor.....

Now The AKA other side of the united state's said You can still smoke it's not ILLEGAL.....but your once 32 cent tax per pack will be after state tax...hmmm around 2.80$ per pack more....
"Remember we fought the British over this exact same thing..accept we was hooked on Tea back then"
You know smoking is bad for you..But As our nation is in recession....We need to tax the lower income family's across the nation that smoke.
So us rich feel Better and we Helped you quit.
And it help's pay for Health care from you smoking.
Just the next new cause on our list.
Next we will fight obesity...With obesity tax...
And from there we will keep taxing you Because we found out all low to poor class American's are spineless.

Either way don't say well at least it's a good time to quit.
It's like Picking me up off the ground after kicking my butt in a fight to say..
Sorry i beat you up so bad...but at least you know now never to fight me lol

I couldnt agree with you more! If I want to quit smoking, it should be my choice, not because they cost as much as a D@MN ribeye now!

I'm old enough to remember when everyone smoked. You wouldn't watch "I Love LucY" without seeing Lucy and Desi with a cigarette. All the magazines had cigarette ads, commercials on tv, hell, even Joe Camel was everywhere.
I think the only reason I started smoking was because it was "cool". Now I've tried to quit many times and I guess Im just to weak-willed. When I try and quit its all I think about!

This is just more gov BS to take away anything we enjoy until we become mindless idiots, or as you say, we riot. People were stealing my gas when gas prices were high, now people will be stealing cigarettes. This makes me madder than Janet Reno's blind date!!!!!

Can I suggest a safe alternative to smoking thats still pretty cheap.

It's called Snus

Snus is a moist to semi-moist oral tobacco product that is used behind the upper lip. There are two formats for snus, loose and portion -packed in a tea bag pouch. Both formats are available in different flavor varieties. Snus is made from selected tobaccos, water, salt and flavorings, following recipes dating back to the 19th century. Swedish snus is pasteurized in a proprietary heat treatment process that meets the Swedish food standards.

It's not even close to the loose tobacco (snuff) thats offered here in the states. It goes through a different curing method which rids a majority of the carcinogens out.

Best of all its Spitless! You can use it where smoking is prohibited. Its somewhat discrete and unnoticeable.

You can get snus from sweden directly, at about $3 per 24g portion tin or 50g loose tin. You can also buy it here in the states from a company thats based out of PA for about $3.50 per tin. These prices include shipping.

www.buysnus.com - Directly from Sweden
www.getsnus.com - Company in PA

Save money and reduce your risk at the same time!

To all you smokers:

You have every right to be outraged because of these unjust taxes. But all of us smokers could stick it to them 10 times worse by quitting. Force them to extort their money some other way. Break the government chains!

I quit cold turkey 2 weeks ago. (First time I ever tried.) I felt like crap for about 3 days. But after that, the crappy feeling was replaced with more energy and my head felt clearer. 2 weeks later, I still find myself associating cigarettes with certain things that I do, but I don't need them and I don't want them. I actually feel a whole lot better and I regret not doing it sooner. The key is to get through the first few days.

Here's 2 things I picked up off a web site.

1. There's only one simple rule: Don't smoke today. If your goal is to quit smoking forever, when will you celebrate your victory?

2. Any urge you get does not last very long. When you get one, just go through your ABCs, while using each letter to name one of your favorite foods. Your urge may be gone by the time you get to Z. This worked pretty well for me.

Whenever I got crabby and needed a cig, I just kept telling myself that I was not going to bow down to an out of control government. It's a mindset. I'm done paying this ridiculous tax and I really hope all of you find your inner strength to do the same. So suck it up smokers! It's not near as hard as you think.

Good luck.

Well - stop smoking - it just makes you subserviant to the Money Masters.

I agree with other posters - everyone stop smoking and bring them To THEIR KNEES!!!

Plus - I don't know about the Constitutionality of all these sin taxes - but telling you you can't grow your own is BLATENTLY UNCONSTITUTIONAL!

Of course - there are some of us here who have suffered under UNCONSTITUTIONAL prohibition for so long - we would love for the chance to get taxed to death just to get a hint of the Freedom our Founding Fathers always intended for us!

Given the effects of tobacco and the "additives" included by tobacco companies, high prices and lower use could be a real blessing. Every single one of my extended family members that smoked, died of tobacco related illness at a relatively young age. I've been smoke-free for about 15 years now.

For those willing to embrace the debilitating effects of tobacco, buy some tobacco seed and a corncob pipe and go for it. At least you'll know exactly what you are smoking.

It's easy for someone who doesn't smoke to tell someone else to stop.
I for one have never liked anyone telling me what to do and this is exactly what this great man obama is doing!
How on earth has this man done all of this is 6 weeks??
Its almost like he had planned all of the bad things he could do to the American people years in advance!

Movies at $10.00 a ticket. Can't even get a decent meal from fast food for under $7.00. Smoking. Just another luxury them rich folk can afford that we can't anymore. I'm sure beers and peanuts are next.

I'ts cool though. Just gotta lower my standards a little bit. GPC's, Steel Reserves, and sunflower seeds.

You guys dont seem to get it, they arent going to cry boo hoo if we all quit smoking..thats what they want!

It's their plan to turn us all into robots. They'll just get the money from something else, beer, porn, Doritos, all the things we love.

Why not take something positive out of this like:

There is nothing positive about taxation without representation.

There is nothing positive about being abused by your government.

Is there something wrong with you? are you a communist or a socialist? An Anti-smoker?

*What has happened to your mind to make you think that this could be a 'positive' thing....

I pay up to $15 for a pack of 20 at my uni.

What are you Americans complaining about?

What do you think your cut off limit will be?

I ask honestly because I quit back in 1994 when the rise in cost was going to bring cigarettes up to almost two dollars a pack.

I absolutely refused to pay it and quit cold turkey. I can not wrap my head a round fifteen dollars a pack.

Well - my cutoff for Beer would be probably 15 Dollars a six pack - for local microbrew of course - not that mass consumption preservative packed swill...

After that - I stick to brewing my own.

All commodities must be kept legal - as the Constitution provides - for the threat of doing/growing your own limits the markup and taxation the free market will accept on these common consumables.

When people allowed the Fed to start making what you do on your own property illegal - and most of you Just Say No (or Eco Warrior) types were A-Ok with that - it was the beggining of the end for Freedom in this country...

Now that it is personally hitting your wallet - all of a suddden some of you are waking up - well welcome to the F-in club fellow slave - to bad you couldn;t lift a finger of protest 20 years ago when it could have made a difference.

(I realize I am not talking to all of you - but probably far more of you then many of you will admit - heck ATS is still banning certain types of non-inciteful free speech to this day!)

Now whaada ya gonna do about it!?!!

(I got your back - but it's your turn to speak up and risk your reputation/career!)

Smokes in Canada are 9 bucks a pack give or take, but sad thing for Americans is that I doubt that extra tax money goes towards the health care system. Here it pays for our future cancer ward visits...which if you are poor enough..are free. Where/what is YOUR extra money going towards?
