Orangetom,you have the answer already,and in a global democracy there are no countries,no borders,no armies,the energy and resources currently put into all the global armies will be turned to helping humanity,and seeking our future in space.

Your perspective defeats itself and you cannot yet envision a reality in which there are no regional governments,I understand your doubt but encourage you to rationalise.Just say "which one of these things is not like the others"when you think about GOOD,EVIL,RELIGON AND GOVERNMENT.

Forced? Can't force disarmament of anything unless its threatened by means ofa more powerful 'thing'. Cant force N-disarm by threating N-war.. nothing worse than N-war.. N-deterrence requires the existence of N weapons (N-parity/MAD or pyrrhic advantages) to prevent their very usage.

If you are talking about a global governing body.. we are getting there... the UN represents most of humanity and the UNSC represents a large portion of it too. (Some countries missing in the UNSC: Brazil, India, South Africa etc..)

We cannot get there directly (in 10, 20 years) because there is too much diversity.. and that is a good thing.. some diversity in all aspects: mental physical, emotional, social ensures that society is not vulnerable to a single exterminating factor that all races are vulnerable too.. There's a lot of good in diversity.. The only way unification could have been achieved was by letting Hitler win WWII. Im sure none of us want that..
