Not yet anyway....

Eh, the Obama supporters will say something to still support the man after the 31st. Maybe their argument will be something like the current situation requires that we stay in Iraq longer. People always support their heroes no matter what.

Hrmmm... Nah...

But I could say that he has already commented that Iraq will be much more of a commitment that was expected while campaigning after having all the facts laid out in front of him (which dependent on your view could be threats of assassination; or it could be we have more issues there than the generally uninformed public knows about)

I believe he came out and commented on this immediately after winning the election and beginning to get daily briefings... But what do I know... It must be a cover-up, after all he came out and directly said that "giving a time line without knowing what I know now, was a bad idea"

Jesus... The man owns up to not being able to keep the commitment from the get go, and nobody gives him credit for honesty.

But whatever, theres a lot of people on here that are going to hate the president no matter what he does.... Same with when Bush was in Office. Hell I hated him, but on occasion he did stuff that I really went "huh, That was unexpected from him!".

It's a sad state of the world when people are so biased to their own views they can't see the little bit of good in the world as a positive... instead they dwell on the negative, and help feed the negative vibed world we call Modern life.

I hope you are not referring to me. I should have been more direct and said that, because he did not know everything during campaigning, it's okay that he doesn't commit to his original plan. But a campaign promise is still a promise, right? Thanks for your information, I didn't know he said giving a time line without necessary information was a bad idea.

If you want to see which politicians actually keep their promises, I have found this wesite to be very useful.

Politicians are like used car salesmen. They will, basically, tell you what you want to hear, in spite of not having all the facts. Master politician Obama made many promises, which were based on half understanding of the issues, if even that much. I suspect, as I imagine other, more knowledgeable folks on this site do, that despite campaign promises made, that when the Newly Elected President, got his first security briefing... It probably put a much higher pucker factor in his shorts.

Folks went off half-cocked, living on election promises and rhetoric when, in fact, the incumbents for this election, had a much better picture of what the Hell was going on, security-wise, financial-wise, and otherwise...

What is happening is what I figured would happen. About three months into his Presidency, and he hasn't made all things goodness and light for the silly folks who, actually, thought he could. Now, even the "fair haired boy", metaphorically speaking, is becoming a pariah among the faithful.

It's kind of scary to think about, if you aren't prepared ...

When he came into office he made a promise to start getting troops out of iraq. so he didn't do it in three months because he also said that the situation needs to be evaluated and handled carefully. Which is a much more mature statement saying we will be out by a date.

This is just nitpicking at its best. Fact is, he wasn't being the cowboy and running in and doing something about it. If he had, it could of been disasterou and the anti-obamamites would of been all over it.

Obama also made a promise to improve our standing in the world. As a commander in chief, he has a responsibility to keep us safe.
By pulling out of Iraq because some people think we should keep to the "date" as promised would give us neither.

Fact is, we can't leave Iraq till it is stabilized. And the United states, after starting an illegal war, would look even more horrible for doing so. And I am sure the inhabitants would like us to make sure it is stabilized before leaving.

obama has already made the Iraqi government prepare for us leaving. So it is still a promise kept. We are being led out, slowly, and some are going to afghanistan.

And quite frankly, I would much rather the president handle a volatile middle east country in war very carefully, then stick to the expiration date.

And if all the people on ats can do is sneer and chastise about an expiration date, when other things are so much more important, then the members of this site is not as informed as I originally thought.

Fact is, if a partial broken, and the most insignificant part of, is all you are concerned about, and is more important to you then the condition we leave millions of Iraqis and how we interact with the world, then I have nothing more to say.

According to this article in the Huffington Post Obama was referring to 2010 or 16 months from when he actually took office , if elected. His campaign statement which stated " next year " would have pertained to 2010 , or a year from when he when he would have taken office ...if and when elected.

Additionally, I'm surprised that no one has brought up the fact that his 16 month timetable was shot down by General David Patreaeus after their January 21st meeting.

WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (IPS) - CENTCOM commander Gen. David Petraeus, supported by Defence Secretary Robert Gates, tried to convince President Barack Obama that he had to back down from his campaign pledge to withdraw all U.S. combat troops from Iraq within 16 months at an Oval Office meeting Jan. 21.

You find an Obama quote to defend any other Obama quote because he talks out of both sides of his mouth. He has to - because he has absolutely no idea whats going on or what will happen.

One thing is certain - his only "change" is the name on his office placard.

Then shy did he just not say this at the beginning? No he DID set a date, and he will not be able to keep it.

No more excuses for this man's subpar performance. He told you whatever you wanted to hear to get the job. Now when will his followers hold him accountable?

You forgot the most important change- his place of birth. There are quite a few people in Kenya that know he was born there, not in Hawaii.

You should have made a list including no Lobbyists in his Cabinet, no one with conflicts of interest in his Cabinet and on and on and on.

Here we have a man who went from quitting a $12,000 a year job in New York to attending Harvard with no money to his name and then buying a million dollar home with the help of a man who is in prison now without ever having even paid his student loans. Somewhere in between all of this, he was bought and paid for.

Would you buy a used car from this man

He just fired the head of a Corporation (GMC) and installed his person in the job. He also forced them to sell to a foreign company. This IS the end of Capitalism as we know it. The Dow is down over 250. Welcome to the Union of American Socialist Republics. It has arrived. Be very afraid.

Please. Not hitting the expiration date is not indicative of nothing.

To sit there and attack a politician over a date of all things is just petty nitpicking of the lowest form. You are really reaching for this one.

We are withdrawing from Iraq. That is what is important. How we do it is important. That we leave an entire nation in a maintainable condition is important. That are own troops are safe doing it is important. A leader makes a decision on the information he is given. A good leader can adapt and be pliable on decision making as information comes in. Events change, and a leader needs to change with it. Anyone who never changes and sticks to one agenda no matter what happens is a dangerous thing. But we can all write the white house and tell them to put two nations at risk and all the troops inbetween to make you happy.

Well, two more hours until Obama fails another promise. Looks like his legacy will be four or eight years of failed promises. I hope not.

Big surprise. Obama made a ridiculous promise during the campaign. He lied to get elected. Every thing that he campaigned on was a lie, except socializing our country, which he and the Democrats are ramming up our butts at unprecedented speed. I expected this, but obviously enough people stupidly believed his ridiculous promises of "hope" and "change" and "bipartisanship" to get him elected.

Now we're getting what the "change" and "hope" morons voted for. Well, here's what your "Bush hate" got you.....a Socialist impoverished country.

I hope you're happy.

I'm not.
