Easter camping trip to Waipara, Canterbury, South Island New Zealand, and day trip to the Waipara Gorge:
Sitting on a Cretaceous 'saurian concretion'
The cliff is full of these concretions.
Cretaceous marine reptile bone in a concretion. I have found fish bones and other plesiosaur bones in these as well, but since the 2011 earthquakes,
those concretions are not visible anymore, so was pleased to find this one. A Mosasaur (now in Canterbury Museum) was found in this area (not by me
KT Boundary section in the Waipara Gorge. Not as impressive as the ones in Marlborough, but still cool to be able to visit.
