If you REALLY want to HELP one of them, then go meet some of them and try to make a friend with one of these homeless people. Go take him/her out the bar and have a couple drinks, see if they are sane or not. Then talk about letting them move in with you if they will help around the house or pay a little rent. The way you come off in you're op sounds so bureaucratic... making them sign a contract and such...

If they don't help out or pay any rent then boot him out later. Give him his tent back and say good bye.

I'm about to repy to Trexter Ziam... but I just wanted to tell you one thing... When I see a homeless man on the street, sometimes I give him 5$ dollars... Did I do a good deed or did I help drug dealers?

I want to help people, but I just want to make sure it's for the right reasons.

I sure wouldn't call him that! I think it's nice what he's doing. And there has to be some restrictions and a contract, otherwise he'd end up with someone who moves in, does nothing all day but surf the internet and is lazy and you end up watching HER kid.

I've thought of opening up my house to someone in need, and I'd have a contract and a clear understanding of what I would tolerate in my house and what I wouldn't. Work in or around my house for free rent and board. If that person doesn't stand up to the contract and expects to become a dependent of mine, then they are out the door.

Its easy. Volunteer at a shelter and/or give money.
You can help out others AND be safe ya know......

P.S. Rent out the spare room under contract and
donate that money to your LOCAL choice of shelters!

Just throwing out some ideas here.

Gee - your post reeks of selfish unrightousness!

First, it is NOT "charity" to demand free slave labor.

Second, there's are loads of legal boundaries you cross with this idea.

Third, there isn't a single "secure" person on earth. You might be rolling in dough today; and tomorrow it could be YOU and your family on the street. Life is unpredictable.

First... I know it's not charity!!! It's socialism... I give you something, and you give me something... and we are both happy!!! But I will be giving more.

Second... I know ther are legal ramifications, but those legal ramifications are only to the government / state... We the People have the Power!

Third... I don't care about tomorrow, I care about Today!!!... And Today, I can be helping somebody. Tomorrow is not guaranteed.

... Except this slave would get to watch the Super Bowl in Hi-Def, her child would get to play with my children, She would have internet access, free rent, free food, free gifts, and the list goes on.

Hell, She will also get to party with me.

I think that beats living if in a tent if she can offer her free labor to me (20-25 hours a week).

Wow! In the time it took for me to reply to your initial post, you laid on MORE proof against yourself!

1. Superbowl for women is like a day at the Beauty Parlor for men.
2. Half the women I know do not watch television and use the Internet for emails only.
3. Your "free gifts" come at a PRICE of 25 hours FREE labor.

Can't you see what you are proposing? It's ludicrous!

Just buck up and be an honest citizen and go HIRE the services you desire ... that's solves both problems at once AND helps the economy ... as well as keeping you out of prison.

If you guys who are so outraged with the op's suggestion, would you still think it slavery if it were your adult kid who moved back home? Wouldn't you expect them to help out around the house while looking for work? Or would you let them lounge on the couch all day, eat your food, and surf the web all night?

You think its nice that he is using his current fortunate circumstances, to try to manipulate and enslave people instead of help them?
And not to mention trying to solicit said slave, using the ATS forum?
Which is against the TOS?
Well its your right to think that I suppose.

No, I think he's using his current fortunate circumstances to help someone out.

Why does everything have to be looked at with crap colored glasses by some people?

If I gave a homeless guy day old bread, would you be po'd about that too? I'm sure you could find something to be po'd about.

Precisely!

It's not 'helping" - the proposal is for the rich to steal from the poor ... sort of like the big banks with their hands-out for taxpayer money!

Manipulate people and enslave them?
I guess we dont remember the depression.
You were happy if all you had WAS SOME FOOD.
I guess when one gets hungry enough, some hard work is do-able.

No, I dont think it is after reading all these posts.
We are too conditioned by now I assume.

Notice, I didnt get one taker on my work for food program!

We are fatally indifferent to and paranoid of others.
Look at how we view other faiths.
Thats why we're screwed as a species without some divine help.IMO
I'll try to stay under the bridge.....thanks for putting up....

All I'm saying is that I know there are hundreds of single moms that would do anything for this opportunity...

Please Please stop discriminating against single dads.
I know it wasn't intentional, I hope.

Single "parent" would be a more appropriate.

Look I respect your opinion, and you are allowed to have it.
I however can see through what plastic selfish people are trying to do.
So my opinion is that this person is a classic manipulator.
But its just my opinion, I don't mean to be nasty by it.
And I feel there is no need to become emotional over it.
Thanks

There is a clear defined difference between helping someone because you want to help them.
And exploiting them for your own gain, out of there own desperation.
This is predatory behavior, and fits the model of a psychopath.
However its ok to have your opinion on the matter, everyone is entitled to there opinion.
Thankyou.

Yea but you don't know me... I'm a good guy... I'm sur if you spent five minutes with me, you'de think differently.

I have a good soul. I have my sins too, I'm not perfect, and I have my bad habits, but I know my heart is in the right place.

Look, my wife is from Mexico... I've spent months upon months in that country. Spending time there gives you a diferent perspective on the American Dream. (it's called the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it)

I just want to help... and the title of this thread included "help needed"

So pardon me for brainstorming ideas to help the victims of this economic crisis.

Like I said before, yes you have a good heart but since you have kids you need to think about your idea. You don't want a crazy woman coming into your home where your wife and kids also stay.

My suggestion, you should do an interview process to make sure you pick the right person. I agree with what you are doing, just make sure you go by it the correct way.

Oh, duh! hehe I see what you mean now.

I didnt think that would be a factor because if that person
felt manipulated they would just leave, no harm done.
I never think people can ever do the mean things to
others that they do! My bad kinda!
Did that make sense?
People can do weird stuff sometimes! Me is strange also!

I've spent months in deep south Mexico and almost everybody I met there was greater in heart than this. They'd have taken the lady and child in as a family member - and a person loved and accepted is usually a person who WILLINGLY contributes. I deeply respect the people I met in Mexico.

Second, actually, I thought you were playing "devil's advocate" here to get some thought-provoking dialogue going ... to which we all obliged.

Third, no hard feelings. I have family members like you and so understand how you can be a "good" person. I still agree to disagree though.

What you propose is closer to Corporate Dictatorship than "Socialism".

I'm not becoming emotional over it.
I think it's awful gutsy for someone to open their home to a complete stranger. It's an inconvenience to have someone move in to your home. Then you have to worry if you are going to be robbed blind. Will this person hurt your kid? Will this person make a move on your spouse? etc. I don't think it would be an easy thing to do, so I'm sure there will have to be some major considerations before someone comes to this decision. I don't think anyone would do this for free labor.
And I don't want to come across nasty either.
