If you ask me it sounds like the loading phase of creatine and/or glutamine. Both of these supplements are used heavily by athletes and bodybuilders for muscle growth and recovery purposes. Drinking 3 glasses of it a day mixed in any form of liquid for 6 weeks or so is the typical loading phase.

It was most likely as some other poster said an Electrolyte drink kind of like a gatoraid but some nasty version.

Most likely your flight was being used to test some performance enhancing drink that apparently never caught on. I have never seen anything quite like your describing in the seven years I was in the Army or the year and half I have been with the Air Force. The closest I can think of is the milkshake pouches in some of the MREs.

On a side note Air Force basic training is like a cakewalk compared to Army Basic.
PT in MOPP4 with full battle rattle. Yay!

I know the answer to that myself and my relatives in the British Military have to drink it aswell..it's a temporary..erm how do i put this..like viagra but in reverse
it's to stop men getting sexually aroused in the morning and to stop them from getting "happy" time when away from base for months on end. I believe it was called...Bromide

hope that answers the question
i got scared when i first took it lol next day no boner i was really confused..but all in all it's pretty damn harmless.
people say it's urban legends but it isnt they do use it still.

That drink is nothing but powdered gatorade and water. I enlisted 4 months before 9/11. During basic most of my flight thought it was full of saltpeter or a chemical that acts on the digestive system as you do not poop for 2 weeks. I later found out the 'constipation' was due to anxiety and stress. I still feel it was just powdered gatorade as its cheaper and has a chalky taste to it.

The 'reverse viagra' also known as saltpeter wasn't in the drink. We thought so too. The 'dysfunction' was also due to stress and anxiety.

bear in mind our's was only once a day as then it's classed as safe.. 3 times a day before each meal of what seems to be Bromide if it stops your boners from rising then it is definately Bromide or another anaphrodisiac. once again hope that helps

You must be talking about at the reception center which doesn't count.
Back at Fort Sill in 77', the 'fun' fell off, finally, during MOS training.

Never was 'forced' to drink anything during basic, except what you got in the chow line; but no requirement to drink any bug juice.

There was some funky pills that were being given out during Desert Storm. I tossed mine in the trash, but I know guys had funny after-affects after they took them. They sure weren't salt tabs (can't remember the last time they were given out).

Yeah, I was there and took them too..
A few not all..
I understand they had something to do with added protection ? or some other chit for your nervous system in case of a gas attack....
(ya know from the MRE's)lol
somehow work with the antropine injection thingys in your Gas Mask carrier.
according to our NBC specailist at that time..

Anyone ever have CeraLyte?

CeraLyte

One of the most foul concoctions I've ever had, but one of the best rehydration solutions on the market. It's now part of the issued IFAKs.

OK, OK, I admit it. I drank weird stuff in the service and I didn't know what was in it.

Anyone else have "propblast?"

One of the biggest issues with troops, particularly large armies, in the olden days was poop. Specifically, very runny, the anxiety and stress and so forth made you very unable to hold it all in until your body relaxed enough.

To me, it sounds like a solution of gatorade or other isotonic drink, mixed with a bulk agent to keep you, less regular so you didn't die of dehydration.

Calcium would give you the stool hardening effect (consumption of antacids do it very well), and would give a suitable thick, chalky tasting drink, and I would imagine, they'd mix in some laxative to reduce the total effec t (Milk of Magnesia) so you could go at least somewhat.

That's my theory, the other thought was it was one of those drinks to keep you regular, in the UK its called Movicol, and is powdered plastic, tastes like crap and is SALTY and thick, but if it constipates you, my best guess is some sort of metal either for stomach or colon regularity or antacid effect.

At the time yes, Patriotism. After the shock and awe of 9/11 wore off and the real culprits were exposed I was thankful that I had not been successfully duped into killing innocent human beings. If you were, then I am sorry. Hopefully the most high will have mercy on you.

Duped into killing innocent human beings? Sorry, must be some other AF you're talking about. We just kill the enemy.

We had the same water requirement in 1983 when I went thru AF Basic. It was no big deal.

I asked the guys in my section that have enlisted since 9/11 and no one said they drank anything other than water or milk, tea, soda, etc.

So I tkae it your enemy is hospitols and schools?

Also, I have to wonder why an Iraqi of any sort is your enemy. Wouldnt be simply because you were TOLD they are your enemy, would it?

Yeah, the AF bombed schools and hospitals. People tend to forget the AAA piece that was in the courtyard of that school or hospital, completely disregarding anything to do with the Geneva Conventions and the Articles of Land Warfare.

You're a no-go at this station. Try again.

I joined the air force in 05. I remember having to drink the 3 eight ounces of drink. as i recalled at least one of them had to be filled with water but all three could be filled with water if you so choosed. the multicolored drinks were gatorade. i pulled kitchen duty plenty of times and we had to refill those fountain drinks with gatorade pouches. we didn't have to chug them first either. we did have to drink them before we got up from the table. it was to keep everyone hydrated, after all san antonio can get very hot and we had to do a lot of being outside during the day. we had to always sip from our canteen or camelbak like every 15mins and keep them full so people don't pass out or die from dehydration. that's just my experience though. even when i became a holdover i started being able to get stuff from carousel in the middle of the room. that was the good stuff. yum.

It's diabetic testing, Had to do it in the Army I was trained in San Antonio, too. They are just more careful cause diabetics can get heatstroke and dehydrate more quickly. I asked when they had us drink it, and that's the explanation I got. And also, diabetes is the number one undiagnosed disease out there.
