I dont care for the avatar with the little boy knelling down, african boy who loks like he is 1 day from deaths door,( Baseball ...something)

this person too starts good threads , but....

That has been discussed before, the guy, baseball101 really took alot of heat for it. We don't like seeing what we don't want to see, baseball explained he was trying to raise awareness for people who are starving in the world everyday.

I noticed someone else yesterday with the same image, different name.

Scary Clown avatars are actually the worst IMO.

That one totally freaks me out too... the tentacle. No offense to the owner of said avatar, but if is intended for shock value, it certainly works. It distracts me from the content of threads, but I'm getting used to it.

If i told you it would give away me tastes, which we should have some secrets from the government. They are profiling us enough.

I have been collecting my favorite avatars from ATS and mosaicing them on my desktop. Some of the artwork, creativity, and the way people represent themselves awes me. The thing with artistic expression is that something will always hit a nerve with someone. The Tentickles avatar is not my favorite but I've found myself contemplating it on more than one occasion. I think it is really well done and is a mind flexing contribution to ATS.

I have been told a couple times that people find my avatar "disturbing". I even got a u2u from someone that called my "soul" into question and that they were praying for me.

Oh come on!
You can't do that and not tell us which one it is!

I'll go first.

I just can't stand the avatar with the two women and that filthy gross disgusting tentacle sticking out of ones mouth.

That is exactly the one and only one that came to my mind as well. I will add that I generally like and respect the posts made by that person, but yeah, it is disturbing, that tongue!

I'm sure that was his/her point all along- but now you recognize him/her when on the boards, right? I agree with you!

ANDY1033:

Also, my goodness, I have seen some incredibly offensive things on the internet that actually shocked ME. (A hard thing to do). Believe me, the avatars on here are very mild, compared to some of the things I've seen.

Google "bathtub girl", or "goatse" and you'll see what I mean. Although if you're offended by octopus mouth girl, you will probably freak the hell out over those.

One of my favorite avatars, happens to be one of the freakiest in my mind. It's the animated .gif avatar of the boy who opens his mouth and it stretches open and down around another picture of the boys head which pops out of it, and starts all over again.

I've spent a few moments gazing at it. It can become hypnotic!!

haha.

I just think it's sad that there are so many people posting here who are obviously into death and torture and Goth, and perversion and cheap sex, and the occult. What's even sadder is they think it's cool to flaunt it.

Used to be that people into that kind of stuff were ashamed and tried to hide it.

I'm sure I won a lot of friends by that remark. Weedwacker would say I'm "baiting."

I'm glad you feel free to share your thoughts and ways and portray what you believe to us on this matter. The same could be said for religious people, people who are into war, cars, loans, reality T.V?! and all sorts of things. Sickening!!

Oh but many of those things are widely accepted as being normal things to be "into" i guess.

Gotta love that white wash glaze that so many hold so dear....

Sorry but this little side convo seems fairly off topic.or is it?

And I think it's sad that someone can join a site like this - most likely because they found it was full of intelligent people that shared similar opinions, and then get upset when they see how some of those same people choose to represent themselves.

If a 160 px wide image can offend your sensibilities so terribly, you are probably in the wrong place here at ATS.

I see/read things here everyday that I am fundamentally opposed to. You know what I do? I let it roll off of me. This place, like the rest of the world, contains a cross-section of every type of person (as long as they adhere to the T&Cs) and if you find the level of "evil imagery" here to be overwhelming, you may want to re-evaluate your motivation for joining in the first place. I'm sure there are plenty of forums that censor avatars more closely to your tastes.

Or, you could try a little harder to concentrate on a member's actual posts, as opposed to the tiny graphic they chose to put up. In my humble opinion, that would be the best outcome for everyone.

(This is not directed specifically at the OP, but at anyone who joined this site and was "disappointed" to find that people from all walks of life and every point of view are accepted here.)

I have been here for just over a half a year and have started threads and posted in about a dozen different forums and have poked my nose into dozens of others... and i only recall seeing one avatar that made me sick. It was a pulsating kaleidoscopic psychedelic epileptic-seizure-inducing nightmare, i shared my concern and headache... and the individual graciously killed the animation so that it was only a still. So it obviously not a subjective matter.

This on the other hand, is a maturity and character issue... and i am not talking about age or morality.

What shocks and baffles me is that there are people out there who are so sheltered/fragile... that they actually bother hanging out here of all places looking for assistance in putting blinders on. Reminds me of yuppies moving to areas of town where there are thrift stores and food pantries... and then cry to their alderman to close these establishments, because they "attract rift raft".

The avatars brought up thus far are uniquely thought provoking... and 'uniquely thought provoking' is one way i would describe ATS.

ATS is a place for people who are not afraid of their own shadow, and therefore not afraid of others. Get a grip people, you are essentially asking ATS to devolve. I'm asking you to evolve and gain perspective, so you can be in compliance with the mission... which last i checked was to 'deny ignorance'.

Avatars, being non-verbal communication for the most part, always give you a bit of "gut feeling" insight into the person authoring a post -- sometimes more-so than a bunch of words would do.

It is never the whole story though, or even accurate. Sometimes they do indeed seem completely unmatched to what a person goes on to say in their posts. Thats what I like about human nature - its really complex and rich and not so easy to predict.

I will say, thank goodness for the Esc button when it comes to some of the animations. Now thats where I think some people are just out to get a rise out of members.

That image makes me hungry.
I love calamari but Tako (-yaki too) rocks.

It doesn't really even seem sexual to me, just kinda goofy.

"And the occult"? Why is it sad that people are 'obviously into the occult'? Other than the fact it's contrary to your Jesusgod worshipping? And the fact that when it comes to belief, obviously it's 'your way or the highway'.

I get tired of some Christians thinking their beliefs are "cool" and the overt way they "flaunt" their beliefs with their avatars.

Used to be that people into that kind of stuff were ashamed and tried to hide it.

The middle-ages are over now, love. Your JesusGod demographic don't have the power to tell anyone what to think or believe any more or make anyone "ashamed" and "try to hide it". Get used to it.

You had a good run, but it's over.

Because the occult is a lie, illusion, looking for a way to control people, to get rich, by using sorcery and magic. It is based on lies and worship of Satan and pagan gods.

The occult is the MiddleAges

-- alchemy, fairies, wizards, warlocks, witches, spells and superstition. Sorcery. Sexual abandon, perversion, orgies, and torture. You may find that cool, but I don't. And I repeat that it's sad to see so many avatars that show people are into this stuff.

Because I agree the people who post here are fearless in seeking the truth. And Jesus said he'd rather we be hot or cold rather than lukewarm.

But of course he wants us hot for him, not for Satan. But at least some people care enough to search diligently and to commit to something besides just existing. Jesus showed by this statement that he is disgusted with people who just don't care, who have no passion for the truth.

I just want people to wake up that the Dark Side is the Wrong Side, bring their thirst for understanding where it will do them good and not evil.

I don't like the really creepy satanic type avatars, otherwise there are some really cool ones, shows the personality of the poster.

The grossest one I've seen was a definate violation of the T&C, but it wasn't noticed by the mods until some time later. I was about to eat before I saw it, but I lost my appetite and couldn't eat anything until a few hours later, and I had to force the food down. It was a picture of an eye tumor.

By the way, sorry if my avatar offends anyone. I know that Bush can be very offensive to the eyes.

Well I'm glad that you guys enjoy my Avatar. I did choose it in relation to my screen name. It is thought provoking and in some mysterious way it expresses who I am.

I do know that it freaks some people out, I have gotten some rather horrid u2u's insulting me for no other reason then the image itself.

As for how I feel about other people's Avatars; I enjoy all of them. The point of life is to experience everything to the fullest, so why should I not feel all the emotions attached to any image? Be it a good or bad image.

Now the only Avatars I really distaste are not on this site, but on a few I frequent. These Avatars are of gratuitous sexual acts or genatles.
There is a time and place for that, and on a forum not related to porn, please keep that to yourself.
