Oprah Magazine Cover - Michelle Obama

The celebrity thing was old when McCain said it and it is old now. The conservatives of all people after electing Regan, Arnold, and having Fed Thompson run, shouldn't be going on about celebrities in politics.


The first lady has ordered the white house staff to not treat the daughters like princesses. The daughters have to make their own beds, clean their own rooms, and even assist the white house staff. Obama wears J.Jill, not Armani.
She has a vegetable garden. Hardly "celebrity" material.

as for the cover....

it looks like a candid moment, and the two are talking,and Oprah is in deep thought. People put their hands in a steeple position when they are forming at thought, often touching them to their chin.

I don't see it as a "political prejudice" to want the President to be a leader instead of a celebrity. Same goes with the First Lady.....she's not an elected official, but she's not a celeb, either.

This has nothing to do with their party, their skin color, or their politics. This has everything to do with their actions, their inactions, and their perceived attitude during a time of crisis.

My "prejudices" would hold true for anyone doing the same thing in the same position.

That is good for you. At my church they used to let anyone come up for wine during the Eucharist but at the other Catholic church in the neighborhood, they only offered it to adults. I was raised Catholic. You tell me what religion she is mimicking then if she is praying to Michelle.

The photo is very strange. obama's hands suggest "move down" as you would do to quiet a room or tell people to sit down, etc. Oprah is obviously holding her hands in some kind of worship / prayer position. It is just too obvious. Why not have her hand behind obama or something more "normal"? Even as just a photo, the "we don't care" poses are overdone nowdays (anybody remember "Faith + 1" south park LOL)

TIN FOIL DONNED: The photos suggests the obamas should be respected and revered by ALL persons; wealthy & influential included. Obama is motioning for you to "kneel" and show respect.

apparently, oprah will also be sharing a cover with ellen degeneres on another cover. i wonder what discussion that pose will create.
it just seems like a business decision and nothing else.
oprah wants to generate revenue and having our first lady on the cover meets that goal.
besides, oprah very well may have decided that only her on the cover wasn't interesting anymore.
i see no conspiracy or hidden agendas in the decision to put the first lady on the cover.
oprah noticed that magazines with the first family are moneymakers.
she's a businesswoman who saw an opportunity and grabbed it.

The prayer pose and, looking up at Obama away from the camera, I could go on but a recent thread of mine brought some unwanted comments lol.

It is there IMHO. but it is up to everyone to decide what they feel about it.
