And I thought Cindy McCain looked awesome when she had her spread in Vogue in June 2008.

And Nancy Reagan was always fun.
Jackie-O.....

And I swear Laura Bush's Cowboy Cookies are my favorite cookies of all time ever-and the beat Michelle Obama's shortbread any day of the week in the Family Circle First Lady Cookie Recipe Challenge.

*sigh*

And I also really enjoy looking at the first lady of France, Carla Bruni, because she is some sort of fabulous let me tell you.

And don't even get me started on William and Harry or the Casiraghi kids.

It is the way its always been.
It is the way it will always be.
In every country.

The President is an elected official, the "head" of the US. He has a job to do, and so far, he isn't doing all that well (IMO).

again you're changing direction

what in the world does Michelle Obama being on the cover of "O" Have to do with Barack Obama doing his job?

Seriously.
Try to stay on track here, it's your argument.

Did you read the rest of that post or just pick and choose what would fit your derailment? :shk:

My whole point is that the First Family should not be out playing the celebrity and looking for attention and "worship" (to a point). That is not their job. That is not what the President was elected to do.

What is so hard to understand about that?

what's so hard is that this topic is about Michelle being on the cover of a magazine. Not about Barack.

So i show you (and those who agree with you) several other images. Then awake_awoke above me comes in and gives you more examples of presidential figures in the "celebrity spotlight" and you ignore that too

instead choosing to ditch the original conversation (of michelle obama) and go for Barack Obama *(who was not on the cover of "O")* so that you can continue your political divisiveness. (or so it seems)

Being the president is to be elected OF the people. That means they're people. They're not royalty. They're mingling with common folk because it's what some people need right now.

If you'd lost your house and your job because some greedy fat guy (or gal) stole it from you, you'd probably want some sympathy as well.

The people need a leader right now. The First Family are the face of this country as its "leaders" (only to a point with the First Lady).

We have enough celebrities.

Celebrity
1. a famous or well-known person.
2. fame; renown.
source

does that not pretty much constitute every president we've ever had?
Oh, and we do have a leader.

Again i plead with you. Look past your political prejudices. They're getting us no where.

I don't see it as a "political prejudice" to want the President to be a leader instead of a celebrity. Same goes with the First Lady.....she's not an elected official, but she's not a celeb, either.

This has nothing to do with their party, their skin color, or their politics. This has everything to do with their actions, their inactions, and their perceived attitude during a time of crisis.

My "prejudices" would hold true for anyone doing the same thing in the same position.

If you have trouble understanding that, it is your problem, not mine.

Hi, FlyersFan and all.

Before answering here, I did re-read your OP, to make sure
I stay on topic. . . B-)

You said:

She looks like she's in prayer.
Hands folded and looking toward Michelle Obama.

I would say: We sometimes place our hands this way, when we "think"
of something, or think of what we "will say" in a chat. . .

But, if the **meditation position** intrigues you, take a look at that:
Oprah & Eckhart. New Earth.
www.opraheckhartvideo.com...

Don't forget that there was a minimum of 22,000,000 viewers of
those shows ! !

This shows how the world is =changing=. . .

Blue skies.

I saw that magazine at the checkout stand a few days ago. I looked away rather quickly.

I hate Oprah and anything to do with her. Thank the diety I woke up, saw the light and canceled my subscription to her magazine and stopped watching her show 5 years or more ago.

Like I said when Oprah endorsed him: he's her latest over-priced shiny "favorite thing", a bauble that all the dumb American women will think they simply must have.

I wish I could give you more stars. As soon as I saw the title of the OP I KNEW it was going to be some kind of senseless degradation of Michelle Obama/Oprah for either 1) being on the cover of a magazine together or 2) one of them making some "symbolic/secret" gesture.

If people are dumb enough to be brainwashed into looking at Mrs. Obama as a savior (over whatever you want to imply) because of this pic then, well, sorry for them.

I'm sure that's not the only photo they took together at the photo shoot. Remember, it's the chief editor that decides what makes the cover.

Some of you are grasping at straws, really. Pathetic IMO.

EDIT TO ADD: I know this is a conspiracy site, where pretty much anything is fair game, but I just can't buy into this one.

let's go ahead and criticize the first lady for being on the cover of Oprah.

You missed the entire conspiracy angle.

- Oprah has never shared the cover with anyone.

- She is sharing it for the first time with Michelle Obama.

- Check Oprahs body language - hands folded in prayer and her body bowing towards Michelle.

- Media and celebs (and politicians) are VERY careful about constructing their message in photos. So what kind of message COULD they be sending?

Nice work. But remember, you don't have to justify your responses. You are allowed to participate in this DISCUSSION. This is a forum.

Researching and then posting the images of other publications took more time and effort than simply responding to a thread with their habit of spewing vitriol.

But threads like these are typically a veiled guise at their brand of "race-baiting" and "hate-mongoring." More often than not, it's a trap. Just you watch.

Back on topic:
It seems normal to have the First Lady grace the cover of a magazine.
(Whatever Oprah's gestures imply to you FF......sorry. Weak sauce.)

But hey, is that a UFO in the sky behind them? Nope.....probably a bird,
move along.

Shhhhh. Don't let them know we are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Regards......KK

:shk: Oh for the love of all things holy .... it isn't 'vitriol' to see a potential conspiracy in the media.

( I have to watch my words lately as I'm walking on thin ice.)

Considering what you just posted, I'm not surprised.

race-baiting and hate-mongoring? Jeeeze ... the only one off topic here is YOU. This is a discussion about a possible conspiracy in the media. It's not about race.

Michelle Obama and her hubby are all over the media. This is different.
And it's different for the reasons stated.

People don't see that, though.

They see those of us that question it as:

* Racist
* Prejudiced
* Hateful
* Vitriolic
* Political Baiters

We are just hateful, awful people for questioning why this family seems more intent on celebrity, attention, and "worship" than on actual leading during a time of crisis.

Well, your comment "mingling with the common folk" sure makes it sound like they are royalty. You know, Obama coming down from the mansion on the hill to see how his lowly serfs are doing.

People don't need Obama "mingling" with them. They need leadership.

Yeah, because it's not the fault of someone not having a clue about money and taking some ARM that they can't afford, it's all about a greedy guy or gal just looking to make a buck on the poor, lowly, working class.

And you do remember where "sympathy" is in the dictionary, don't you?

Anyways, back on track. I derailed this thread enough for today.

Looks like she is simply having an "Ah-ha" moment.

The message.......Buy this magazine.

I am sure photo editors poured over hundreds of shots to find a visually interesting moment. Factors such as "gaze-motion", "rule of thirds", "perspective / scale" etc., all play a role in good balanced eye-catching composition. It reads as a "candid" moment to my trained eye.

Michelle Obama and her hubby are all over the media. This is different.

It's "different" because you merely claim it to be. It is a magazine cover, nothing more.

Inside there are probably ads, recipes, coupons and fashion tips.

Mind bending articles like:
"1,001 Crockpot recipes"
"Vacuming Tips: How to properly use the Crevice Tool"
"Lose 100lbs in one week with that old Thigh-Master"
"How to Drive Your Man Wild with a Toilet Plunger"

You know, the usual tabloid rubbish. No conspiracy, no contoversy, no story..........sorry.

Toodles.....KK
