Come on, every day is hoax day

But I think a special bit of time should be put away for a special hoax, possibly done by the 3 amigos. A big wind up for the site. April 1st (my Nans birthday) should well be played upon on here IMO. It's just for laughs like.

edit- because I can't even spell hoax, let alone carry one out

Hoaxes are bad enough as it is - mainly because most of them aren't clever or even funny - without the idea that somehow it's acceptable or encouraged because it's a particular day or date. Something made even more unmanageable and pointless because of international date lines anyway.

I can enjoy a good hoax, but unfortunately I rarely see a good hoax.

True, a lot of hoaxes aren't so good. I just wondered what site policy was.
If the 3 amigos do something it'll be pretty obvious though.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.

This is my personal take on the issue, and by no means an "official statement":

In the past we all enjoyed April fools, but then one year - during a very extravagant hoax/prank - a lot of members lost their sense of humour and emotions went wild. I don't know whether it was because of their paranoia, or because they forgot that it was 1 April, or because they take ATS that serious every day of the year. Whatever the reason, since then it was decided that we let 1 April go by unnoticed.

Yes, "hoax" threads still pop up on the day, but they are usually subtly removed or closed. Staff members enjoy the spirit of the day, so it would be very unlikely for them to ban a "stand up" member for portraying a hoax on 1 April.

But as I said - this is my take on it. Let's anticipate an official announcement.

As an ATS Staff Member, I will not moderate in threads such as this where I have participated as a member.

Ah, the good old days.
That April Fools Day joke STILL haunts ATS.
It's too bad that people have such a bad sense of humor that we can't have fun like that anymore.

I remember once, a april fools joke played on the site by our own red suited super hero, yep...S.O.

I was basically a parallel to the innovation from mars radio show and tv show/movie.

I, of course, refer to "war of the worlds".

We had between 30 and 50 people in chat that day, what a riot.

You mean the joke 'Hacking'? Halloween 2006? That was great. I wish ATS would do something like that again, good times.

For those who weren't here then, the Admin put up a trick or treat page on entering the site. Hitting 'trick' resulted in some interesting scrambling of the alphabet. People who pressed 'treat' got a bonus of 5000 points. It was fun, seeing the posts made by people who had pressed 'trick'. They didn't always think so, alas.

Considering one of our last attempts at having a little fun on April 1 is STILL used as "evidence" that we are some sort of "cabal controlled info gathering site" by those who have way too much paranoia and not nearly enough reading comprehension skills(every page of that stuff is labeled and identified as a "gag or joke") and the time wasting drama rears its ugly head still (though thankfully not nearly as often as the first two years) you can rest assured we will not be pulling any pranks this year.

We didn't do anything last year either for the same reasons. Matter of fact, I don't think we've done an "official" April Fool's Day prank since 2006.

I was thinking the same thing.

Pranks can get out of hand and be used as ammo later if people want to discredit others.

I know it was a big deal and had me tripping out for a minute over the one you mention.

Best leave well enough alone!
