I have seen instances of "baiting" in threads, lately.

Nevermind not knowing how to spell it, some people are low on humor fluid their whole life and never get to experience a good laugh.
Id like to make a laughter mission for these people, kinda like feed the world did with food, ya know?
Like giggle the world or along those lines, for the humor impaired.
Ok, just so im on topic, this wasnt baiting, it was a public service message.
I try my hardest not to bait, intentionally.

Baiting? As in teasing or sarcasm or satire?

You mean we should be absolutely sober and serious here?

Weedwacker, are you that way?

Hamster?

Yeah, we bumped heads a few times FF, but I think we grew to respect each other, and that counts for more than agreeing all the time

As Mozzy has mentioned -

i'm the big bad man weedwhacker is referring to and i'm sorry to say that you all have just joined in his rant. at no fault of your own, his thread was innocuous to start.

I also have been flamed by WW for 'baiting' when I had no intention of doing so, yet WW was convinced of it -

v_v....

Ermmm.....I know it's a mistake to be baited, but.....the Civil War in the USA is not really relevant....to an event in 1859.

To me, since the US Civil war began in 1861, it was relevant and I replied -

I am not not trying to 'bait' you or anybody else.

You asked whether any earthquake activity 'correlated' with the Carrington event ...

The only 'event' which I am aware of which 'correlated' is the American Civil War ...

Take it for what it's worth

Which then elicited this response from WW -

v_v.....no, won't let you off that easily.

Look at your earlier posts, that refer to events in 1859....as you seem to impugn the OP's thread to something else....no, you wlll NOT get away so easily.

UNLESS you simply troll, for the sake of 'fun'...in which case, you will be found out.

When I then asked him about his issue, like what was really bothering him there were no further responses ...

Since this is your thread, WW, what gives ?

Heya Weedwhacker --

Good to see you; I've been AWOL for four months due to a wee little storm we had here.

I think sometimes reactions are stronger to our posts dependent upon the tone. I can (and have) disagree with you, but it's the manner in which that is done that determines whether it is a discussion or a flame. If a person affixes a label on someone, most times that resonates as a flame to me. i.e. "You're full of crap, you (insert invective)" vs. "I disagree with what you say because of X".

I agree.... I think there are occasions that I see that seem to be intentional baiting with the apparent goal not being communication or furthering a discussion, but to illicit an emotional response. I also think there are folks that get their jollies solely by discovering buttons to push. Humor, as you and others noted, can often be employed to break up the tensions momentarily.

Of course, I could just be a garden-variety whackamole, in which case I'm completely full of foecal coliforms.

It just seems to me that you've somehow appointed yourself as a de facto ATS thought policeman. It seems that in your opinion the difference between 1859 and 1861, two years, means two evens are not correlated, when in my view two years is even less than a hearbeat for the Earth, who lives her life in terms of geologic time.

This distinction, just as an example in this discussion of board business, doesn't seem to be important to you at all. All that matters to you is your own objection to somebody else's suggestion that there could be a correlation.

This is a rather one-sided attitude which leads to the kind of ad hominem abuse I have pointed out here.

For fun I would like to post up a pic of that guy, Strawman, actually I find him quite cute, but rather prefer the Cowardly Lion myself, he walks so cool, whereas the Scarecrow just skips along, but he's Smiling while he skips!

As far as just plain old being nice all the time, I imagine it would get a little predictable and lose some spice, but sometimes things become extreme and it becomes hard to ignore.

Plus I also like the idea of a level playing field.

I prefer to fight uphill, It gives more reason to push and fight harder.
Kinda makes the primal instincts work harder.
If someone baits alot, and practices it so much he perfects it, does that make him a master?

For some reason this reminds me of what an old girlfriend would say from time to time - "Whatever floats your boat."
