To put not to fine a point on it , but if you want to get party political about all this bull, then try this on for size.
The disgusting, fat obsessed, consumer society we of a western nature are born into, is solely responsible for this economic downturn. Wether in the US or UK, the fact is that we relied to heavily on credit for too many years, and just accepted another ten years on the mortgage, or another two years on the small loans, credit cards, whatever, and basicaly left it all to sort itself out. Which of course it was never going to.
Houses cost more than is reasonable even now after all the drops in price.I mean an appartment for £100,000 is still an obscene number even if its 10k cheaper than it was. No one with a normal every day job is going to be able to pay that off without taking out a loan that will be a burden on his kids later on. In my opinion the very fact that houses are so expensive, that you have to bankrupt yourself to start a family,is abhorrant. It should be a breach of human rights to have to stab yourself in the eye like that, right at the begining of the existance of an ideal nuclear family and the basis for its growth.
Yeah ... I am a socialist. I believe that all those fat cat bankers you are all so angry about, should be shot, thier families given a pittance to live on as a reminder to society of what happens to thieves, and thier wealth should be distributed amongst the poorest folks in the land. I believe that a shop assistant should be payed as much as a CEO. I believe that your local paper boy should be payed the same as a school teacher, or a tax collector. I believe that all government staff should get NOTHING and have to do another job to supplement thier earnings. Positions of power should be occupied in service, not by contract. By honour, not by nesscesity (forgive spelling).
The point Im making is, that you do not have a socialist at the head of your state, but by assaulting him on the grounds of not liking the bailouts ,you keep saying you wish you did. In a socialist regime the Bailout wouldnt have happened, the physical remains of the companies and institutions which collapsed(buildings and vehicles and other assets) would have been turned into something the people or government could use. That is a wholey socialist agenda. The bailout is a capitalist methodology . For a start no self respecting socialist would reward irresponsible spending by banks, with a golden handshake let alone a platinum coated lifeline . Another thing is that in a socialist agenda thats working PROPERLY there are no rich , there are no poor, and there above all arent any people so wealthy that they can influence politics away from a pure ideal of equality. It cant work of course (especialy not in the west where for centuries greed and hatred have been rewarded by fame and adoration...yes google ,Im talking about your great grandaddies) because there are people who refuse to do things that benifit everyone, and only wish to advance themselves. But think on this, if your Obama had let those banks fall, and the motor industry fail, then it would just be a different bunch of people calling him a looser, and saying hes not capable. So hes lost out on your vote this time I guess?? Well bothered! He will just pick up someone elses. One mans trash is anothers treasure.

The Republicans who started a war based on lies of immaginary weapons mass destruction which caused according to souces 800'000 thousand dead civilians in Iraq and 1/4 of the population to become refugees...

Think about that for a minute.... 800'000 civilians dead?!!!!!

Because of the republican WMD lies. Also thousands of American troops dead and many more wounded.

President Obama was one of very few american politicans that had the guts to criticize the pointless war.

Also, republicans caused the financial meltdown and current economic global crisis with their inabilty to regulate wall street and general mismanagement of the economy. Obama criticized the lack of regulation way before he became candidate.

The financial crisis is NOT something you're going to fix over night. It takes time and the whiners should remember who is responsible for the crimes against humanity and the financial collapse... That's right, the former administration under GW Bush!

Last I recall, the republicans and democrats were all for going to war. They (both sides) were provided inaccurate information and the agency that provided it was scolded. Now you can go all conspiracy theory on that but most of the time things are as simple as they look.

Clinton caused the financial crisis and I dont understand where you get the idea republicans caused it.

I think the laughter was his way of dealing with the stress. He was not being callous or anything but I think he is faced with unusual pressures.

The economy is no laughing matter and he knows more than we do. But ultimately I think at some point this balancing act they are doing is going to be unsustainable. They have managed to give the illusion of action and some recovery in front of the G20 summit - to give the US some positive momentum. But ultimately, a decision of some sort needs to be made in London. I suspect they will talk it to death and promise further discussions....

Not a job I would want for any amount of money.

That's one of the scary things about Obama. In the short time he has been in office he has spent more tax payer money than Bush did in 8 years! These last two weeks he produced two trillion out of thin air. Stop with the comparisons to talk radio and use some common sense. How about Economics 101? Has any country ever had a positive outcome after writing off their own debt? How many more trillions do the banks need? It's not rocket science so everyone stop with the "just give Obama a chance" rhetoric. He's bankrupting our country faster than anyone in our history.

You mean you would support a President even when you know he is making bad decisions? "right or wrong?" Wow, that's weird.

Yes correct. Like one of my own family does all the time. It's called "tolerance",
look it up.

Now what strikes me as weird is going on an internet chat forum and spewing vitriolic
negativism that accomplishes zilch.

Oh well, no matter. Pure perceptions my friend.

Regards....KK

Wow. So if someone was getting the living crap beat out of them by a group of thugs, you'd just walk by, adjust your rose-colored glasses, and pretend none of it ever happened because it'd be just too "negative" for your fragile little soul to handle? I do believe you've defined a sociopath. You're sick and need help... desperately.

Where has this ever happened?

When government has all the power and controls resources, government officials live well. I don't know of any place where socialism worked properly and led to no rich, no poor.

How did you get 24+ stars for this comment? You really think the anti-obama sentiment in this country is based off of race? lol... that's laughable at best and completely ignorant at worst.

The anti-Obama sentiment in this country is based on the fact that the man has done everything wrong. Taxing people into oblivion and throwing countless TRILLIONS of dollars into a black hole is not going to solve the problems with the economy.

They've managed to find a scapegoat in AIG and now the American people are showing outrage at the 165 million in bonuses, when the real outrage should be directed at the administration for blowing over a TRILLION dollars bailing the a$$holes out in the first place. CONGRESS VOTED FOR THE BONUSES IN THE STIMULUS BILL!!!!!!

Is that incompetence? Or is that racist sentiment? Before answering that question remember to deny ignorance.

what a totally uninformed opinion. are you blind?
i've already seen 60 days of destruction, and i don't want to see more.
what is it that you want to give him a chance to do?
and the racial thing? come on,you dont really believe that,do you?
i see that you have about 35 buddies on here that voted for this carnage.
do you all live in a bottle?
have you tried playing"are you smarter than a fifth grader"?
what is it that you dont see about the destruction ?

oh well, you asked for it,now you got it. lets see how you like owing $116,000 per 3 person family.
i guess you dont realize what he did last week, when he made the country borrow 3 trillion from ourselves.
this action has never worked in the history of mankind. it causes hyper inflation... got a good sturdy wheelbarrow? you're gonna need it when you want a loaf of bread.

what will it take for you to see that this is an agenda, meant to hurt the country? you dont see that every day we go further and further away from our basic beliefs?

another 30 days?
sheeeedsh! what a sheep.

hey ketzer...scapegoat should be replaced with smokescreen!!!!

What's with the racist thing?

Does that mean that anyone other than a whitey who criticised Bush when he was in office was racist?
I don't remember anyone being called racist here at ATS because they criticised Bush.

How inane and juvenile to use that to derail a thread.

What is facinating about this entire thread is that there are really three types of posts.

1. Folks articulating ISSUES they have with the work being done by this administration. Specific items are mentioned. Some policies that they don't feel are worthy of merit or will (or have done what they have intended to do). Some discuss the promises that have been made and then broken. Some discuss some of the basic blocking and tackling that one would expect from any professional organization that is being poorly handled. These folks are specifics, data and history - e.g. campaign promises within their posts. Some discuss two or all three of these types of items

2. Folks who simply ignore the specifics and argue that folks need to wait longer to enable the administration to get it together. These folks are ignoring the fact based content on the pretext that it is immaterial as it will get better. In most cases, they don't imply any nefarious motives on the part of the poster, they even imply they might be justified, they just argue that we all need to take more time before we level the arguments.
OK

3. Folks who are intolerant of any critical review of anything being done by this administration. They castigate the type one poster. They subtly or overtly insult the posters - racist, have no life, there are some really beautiful comments out there.

The thing that group 3 has is that in none of the posts I've seen are the data supported, specific instances and the critical assessment countered with additional data/specifics. "he inherited this mess", "what do you expect him to do with things that are outside of his control", "the federal reserve is causing the problem". You name it, they are all excuses for what the majority of folks on the post are indicating are things that are troubling about the first 60 days of this administration.

I've asked earlier and I'll do it again as perhaps it was missed by group three.

Instead of pushing knee-jerk responses that are directed at the poster, how about you respond the content of their post? I've seen a few #3's attempt to do this, but again it is generic, sophistry and no real fact based articulation of a counter argument.

"My father's better than you're father" is weak on the kindergarten school yard. It is wildly immature and or the product of someone who either is unwilling to or is unable to put an argument together when discussing the state of our country

We're anxiously waiting

Thats what Im saying exactly. It hasnt . But thats the ideal model. What Im trying to get across by laying it all out like this, is that people accusing Obama of socialist behaviour wouldnt know socialism if it jumped up and roundhoused them in the face.

That is totally unprofessional.

The man is not a President, he is a laughing stock.

Add to this how he treated the British Prime Minister - and Britain is a so-called ally...

I said before he was elected that I was seriously concerned. And I am even more concerned now.

This man is the so-called world leader...Lord, help us, and I mean that literally.

He is either a puppet of evil or the antichrist, or so apathetic about his fellowman that it amounts to the same thing.

Folks, I hate to break it to you, but Obama is in over his head. I voted for Obama, and initially gave him the benefit of the doubt, but there is no mistaking his experience - or his advisers' lack of experience. I am not shocked at all concerning that Politico piece:

Obama writes CHIRAC (FORMER PM of France):

In his latest faux pas Obama managed to pi$$ off France... President Obama wrote Jacques Chirac saying he was looking forward to working with the former French president in the coming four years(?) Monsters and Critics reported: US President Barack Obama has indirectly praised former French president Jacques Chirac's fierce opposition to the US-led invasion of Iraq, the online edition of the daily Le Figaro reported on Thursday. In a letter described by Chirac as 'very nice,' Obama wrote, 'I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.' The use of the word 'peace' was taken to be an indirect reference to Chirac's stance against the US intervention in Iraq, which Obama had also opposed as senator. No Pasaran has more on the bizarre letter to Chirac. French newspaper Le Figaro is horrified at the faux pas. And, current French President Sarkozy was appparently upset with the letter. Europumas and Free Republic has the latest: Now Obama has insulted French President Sarkozy! Oh no! Obama sent a letter to Chirac, saying he looks forward to working with him the next four years. Le Figaro, French newspaper is horrified at the faux pas. Doesn't Obama ever consult his staff before acting? Sarkozy is the President there! It's like Sarko writing to George Bush and saying he looks forward to working with him. Chirac is the FORMER president.

www.gatewaypundit.blogspot.com...

Barack Obama does not seem to know that in May 2007, French voters elected Nicolas Sarkozy to the French presidency, to succeed Jacques Chirac who had been president for twelve years. Yesterday, we told you Sarkozy is irritated because Mister O. refuses to tell him if he will accept to meet him personally in the next few months.

Barack Obama wrote a letter to Jacques Chirac to tell him about his desire to "work with him" for the next four years !

This is all over the French press (one of France's leading papers broke this story).......I doubt you will hear much about this in the American press. But ask yourself, HOW did this this type of mistake happen? I am a regular working class guy, whom is out of the loop, and even I know Chirac is the FORMER President of France. It speaks volumes about Obama AND his advisers: how do they let this happen? Then you have the Iran blunder on top of it. My god.

[edit on 23-3-2009 by Manwin]

You're right, not many Americans are aware of this. I am struggling to believe that is true but alas it is.

This week must be a bad week and a loss of some faith for Obama Voters. The wheels are falling off quite quickly.
