If I, a Moderate, might posit a philosophical maxim, it would be this:
Ideology is the curse of all sentient beings.
Dogma is nothing more than solidified Ideology.
Thus, all dogmas, whether religious, political, or philosophical are hardened, untested, concepts rarely or never tested against Reality.
What's wrong with using Reality and 'constantly tested' hypotheses about Reality as a guideline? Yes, it's harder to chew than the pablum the Fundamentalists toss out, but a lot more filling.

The collapse of Christianity is as inevitable as the collapse of the old religions whose symbols were the Bull - Taurus, and the Ram- Aries. These were the ages when the Sun was in those signs.
They both gave way for the sign of the Fish - Pisces. Jesus, as the Lamb/Ram of God was sacrificed to make way for the Fish of which Jesus became the "fisher of men>"
Now his time is up and the Sun is moving into the sign of Aquarius, the water bearer.
Expect changes. Christians would make it easier on themselves if they would just go with the flow.

As a former member in the seventies of a large, charismatic church, I can state with confidence that when the Religious Right served as facile tools for Karl Rove and George Bush, the Rapture Right wrote their own obituary.
In other words, it is ludicrous that the Bride of Christ would vote in droves for torture, invasions, and heavy favoring of corporatists and the ultra-rich. By doing so, they have fallen into a sad deception, which may be what we used to term The Great Deception. If it isn't The Great Deception, then it's a precursor of it.
Frankly, I'm angry at these folks. They gave us Bush, and Bush gave us two wars and this dark economic crisis. Thanks Christians. Next time you get political, think first please!
11Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. 13Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool, 14because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.

I believe that Christ suffering has paid for our sins in full, according to the meaning of Hebrews 10 e.g.
I do not believe in cheap grace so I'm not a so called antinomian. But we are under the law of christ.
