The United States is 15 months into a recession and there are scant signs that a recovery is on the way, as ABC correspondent Kim Landers reports from Durham in North Carolina.

Throughout the country Americans are enduring the economic turbulence of rising unemployment and a steady drumbeat of housing foreclosures.

The signs of the recession are everywhere. You can even find them riding with a sheriff's deputy in Durham County in North Carolina.

"Anytime the economy hits a low point, we deal with a lot of theft," Corporal Brian Williams says.

"You know, it's a culmination of things, when people aren't working and they need money, then they'll be out during the day 10 times more than they would have been.

its is highly expected that crime will rise during a recession.
is the governmenit ready to admit it? no obviously not.
are the world banks behind it? who knows.
you really don't wabt to walk the streets looking like you have money these days. muggings and daylight robberies will skyrocket cos everyone is broke and have plent of time on their hands.

It's heating up in places it normally wouldn't. I live in a decent area with the median house price around 300k and just down the road the credit union was robbed the other day. Now granted the person came from some horrible apartments but this is not something this area would normally see.
