This thread is why I finally joined ATS.

I am an American and I love my country. Our out of control government has and is still doing everything it can do destroy us as a nation.

I am ex-military. US Navy to be exact. I have visited Canada many times and have only the best experience with our friends and neighbors to the north. Canadians are hospitable and warm people and I respect them greatly and thank them for their contribution to every effort every made to protect and defend the North American continent.

I had the pleasure of serving side by side with the Canadian navy and found them to be honorable and well trained and very dedicated to their mission. I have the utmost respect for the Canadian military.

I do not share the same views as this idiot on this lame Fox news show that has disrespected our closest ally.

TBone

Well I'm glad my thread could attract more subscribers to this site! Welcome here. Thank you for your positive comments about our Military. I don't believe either military should be disrespected, as we all have made great sacrifices to the cause, whether it's justified or not. Thanks for your input.

Whether you find it funny or not is a matter of your own opinion. As for the content, well, do you watch every night? Somehow, I doubt it. I'm not going to say that the show doesn't have a conservative bias, it does, but they're not averse to taking pot shots at everyone...themselves included.

Understand something: I am not defending what was said. All I'm saying is that given the nature of the show, it is NOT a news broadcast and the show *intentionally* pushes the boundaries and can be offensive if you get your political sensibilities bruised easily.

If you take any news station seriously you are deceived about what "real" news actually is. The news is not meant to be funny at all...the fact that all the major networks have their anchor people make witty remarks and become very opinionated towards one side or the other; plus the use of music and popular culture references - in my opinion - neuters the news.

There is no news and the irony of it all is that Comedy Central's two back to back hyperbolic representations of the state of modern news are currently held as more newsworthy than the news itself, so now the news tries to corner that "comedy" market as well (CNN and FOX and MSNBC - as if any of the three of them have credibility as far as you can through any one of their corporate-paid pundits - you know, "the experts").

Here is the illusion in action. You have been hoodwinked.

There is no country
There is only Earth.
There are only Earthlings.
Everything else, nationalism, patriotism, left, right, center are all parts the great illusion.

About our defending spirits; Pray for those who would put their life on the line to protect us from those who would take freedom from others. That freedom is sacred. They are defending that. But there are those in control in whom we placed our trust who have used that sacred resolve in these good people to do bad things on a national and world wide scale. We will see this soon enough, and mourn the waste of the great potential in the lost.

Canadians and Americans are North Americans, who are Earthlings.

Don't play with polarization unless you want to be hurt. These information pornographic entertainer-advertisers want to sell things we don't need. Its not news, it's advertainment. They will poke your sore spots to get your attention so you will buy insurance for fear, drugs you don't need, trinkets that mean nothing, status that is empty and to set in you ideas and attitudes that support their agenda of assimilating your life for their power.

Why do you let these fartberrys get you upset? There is no animosity between any peoples on Earth. Only those under the illusions that power is divinity. There are those service to selfers we all deal with, and they are still everywhere. But the big evils are the ones sending our children into hell to win control for more power.

This thread is nothing more than an indicator of how many nose rings are chained to this lie.

There are real issues to discuss, and then those that just disgust.

Unfortunately Fox News is mainly hosted by jackasses that have no business being in the media. Fair and balanced reporting my ass.

Well, there was that little unpleasantness in 1812-14, but I swear that when we burnt down the White House, we thought we were still at war. Honest!

This is ridiculous, I am proudly Canadian. And , i know that we have sacrificed so much for this war.
America, you guys should be grateful (which i know some of you are) for what my country is doing. They are leaving their wives, their children, and their friends ! , for your war.

The broadcast is just disgusting . Saying that we are taking a breather , bla bla bla.
Well ya know what ! , we are ! Cause we are sick of fighting your war ! , yes i know your doing the big job . But , we still shouldn't be in there.

O well , what can i do ? I'm Just an average Joe , lol

because studies show over 50% of americans get their "news" from jon stewart and other comedy shows. so check your facts before you spew failure out of your mouth

I'd like to see these multiple studies. Please produce linkage.

By the way it is not Jon's fault if people are idiots and take the show seriously, it is not the same type of media, that you can not deny, but ignore to make your points. And spout the same useless conservative comment about "liberals".

And to the person who asked me about Red Eye, I don't know, I've never bothered watching it, but I was not commenting on it, I was commenting on someone's idiotic statement about a comedy show.

I haven't read most of the posts in this thread but I only want to say that I honestly don't understand why Canada is involved in that mess.
It's the USA's problem. It's their own huge mess.
I don't understand why any other country is "helping out" for that matter.
Canada should bring their soldiers back home.

(I know, I know, it is all political and they are international support buddies).

I don't understand why people are getting so upset over this.

I really don't.

Fans of Fox news, like myself, have already stated that this show is not a news show. It is a stupid program that nobody watches or really cares about.

It was a stupid comment from a stupid show. It would be like holding Comedy Central to blame for the repeated anti Canadian view points on South Park.

Jon Stewart is held more highly as a news source by some here then FNC. So why not get outraged over that?

Comments made by a Fox News commentator criticizing the Canadian military for considering taking a year-long break when the Afghanistan mission ends in 2011 are "ignorant" and "insulting," says a Conservative strategist.

Looks like it is starting to be picked up by Canadian News.

Personally, I just put programs like this one on Fox, on "ignore".

Not worth discussing unless the people believe this stuff.(I don't think the majority do.)

You know why people are 'outraged'. They hate Fox News and will use anything to justify that hatred.

It would be different if Hannity or O'Reilly had said this. They didn't. Red Eye isn't intended to be taken seriously. Anyone that's ever watched it knows that.

If its satire and not to be personally interpreted then I guess if I were to host my own radio show tonight and called out american troops as gutless, hillbilly cowards with kill first, question later philosophies that would be be just fine. I didn't think so. Those here using the notion that the show is run @ 3am and is trash (can't argue that point) are making poor excuses. Fox is a major news station and, sadly, taken as the gospel by a nation that at times struggles with having a clear thinking majority.

Does the program in question equate themselves to raw sewage. Yup. Are the hosts uneducated knuckle dragging douchebags. Well just look at them for starters. The answer here is very simple. Canada is planning on leaving in 2011/12 (not sure of the exact date) but they need to leave. Obviously the perception, by some, is that Canada is not a contributor and thats fine. Let american blood flow as its really their problem anyways.

And here our parliament was discussing whether or not we can extend our withdraw deadline because the Americans are begging for more help.

... screw that, if this is the kind of respect we get for helping the Americans out, I say shorten the deadline, ship our boys back home right now... the Taliban can have the bases and zones we occupied once we're gone.

We're peacekeepers. We don't fight wars, we keep civilization functioning. We weren't supposed to be in there in the first place, we only went in because the Yanks begged us to.

Serves us right for thinking of the US as an ally.

Whether the show is meant to be taken seriously or not is not the point- what they are saying is demeaning, arrogant and insults those brave Canadians who, at this very minute, serving in the middle east in the American led, War On Terror.
First they accidentally blow up their British allies in so called, friendly fire incidents, then they insult their Canadian allies by publickly mocking them on national television. And then we're told, don't take it seriously!!!
I'm now going to start a new thread called, Fat Insensitive Yanks And Their Love Of Doughnuts. . . Hey, but don't you guys take it seriously!

I think that's an unfair assumption John. It's a stupid show. It's content doesn't reflect what the people think. Ask any American military person about Canada's troops and you will get nothing but praise. THAT is what really matters, the opinion of your peers.

One of our boys is worth ten of any other country's.

Our military has a functional and mutually respectful relationship with the US forces, and we dont worry or even pay attention to such dribbling garbage. Fox news? comeonnnnn... who gives a squirrels nuts.

You couldn't be more out of tune on this subject if you tried. I will agree that the "peer" aspect has merit but really that's a forgone conclusion given that most shared militaries, especially allies, are one in the same.

The content I think deeply reflects american sentiment and values and THAT speaks volumes. Not saying all but I'd bet good money that the average american probably has no idea that Canada is even involved yet alone shedding blood.
