MadWorld: 'most violent computer game ever' launched on Nintendo Wii

www.telegraph.co.uk

Players in MadWorld use chainsaws, spiked clubs, daggers and spears to execute victims.

They can impale their enemies on road signs, fry them on electrical sockets and rip out their hearts.

A challenge called 'human darts' sees players pick up Madworld citizens and hurl them onto giant spiked dartboard.

Sega, publishers of the game, said it is "tipped to be the most violent video game in history".

Is this the state we have fallen to? I mean seriously. And just thinking about children playing this. No wonder we have school shootings. Such a violent world is it not?

Theatrics and special effects always seem to making awful and otherwise sick things cool. Media distortion IMHO is completely tweaking our lifestyle and this is just another way.

Anyway thought this was worth reading and could not find another thread about it.

There's a reason the game is rated M for mature.

Children shouldnt be playing it.

I have played every "first Person Shooter" since the days of Rise of the Triad and Doom.... I have yet to climb a bell tower to vent my frustration.

Blaming violence on video games is an excuse for poor parenting.

This isn't really breaking news... this is borderline stupidity.

True and hopefully the parents will have the necessary discretion to not allow their kids to play this. But realistically many will be able to get a hold of it.

Should not be on the market at all.

Ooh, no! Think of the children! Will no one think of the children?!

It's rated mature. If people under the age of the rating it has received are playing it than either the parents aren't doing their jobs or they feel that the person is mature enough to understand the difference between reality and fantasy

I find this quote, attributed in the article to John Beyer particularly annoying

"The games industry just absolves itself of responsibility for this by saying it is down to parental control. There is enough killing and maiming in the world without turning it into entertainment, which is a huge cultural mistake."

It is up to parental control. As with movies, television, books, comics, music ALL of it is up to the parent to see and regulate.

And half the movies that are on the market should not have ben allowed either by that token.

I have seen worse scenarios in movies than in ANY game.... and they are more "life-like" in the movies.

You mention "its rated mature" exactly.. it says on the box not for anyone under a certain age. If they do play it.. again, an example of bad parenting.

Games like this may ir may not create a propensity for violence.
But I DO find it a bit scary that we consider them entertainment.
Why is that?
Just human nature?

Realistically, children get their hands on:

Guns.
Matches.
Knives.
Pornography.
Tobacco.
Alcohol.

All of these things get into the hands of people who are not prepared for them, should they be off the market?

It's about time we get a few more other type of games for the wii. I love mario, zelda etc. But resident evil, and games like this can be a nice change every now and again.

Watched any violent movies lately?

Read any violent books lately?

Watch documentries about the holocaust lately?

Watched the news lately?

Violence everywhere.

Apparantley it's not ok in games for some people. Very strange.
If your answer is yes to any of those questions, then maybe your a hypocrite?

Do you see?

Maybe we should also burn some books, ban skinamax, prohibit rock and rap music, and why not just outlaw dancing? Help us Kevin Bacon!!!!

Bah, this game hardly tops Manhunt (one or two) by my standards. Now THAT was a disturbing game series of violent murder.

The whole thing is practically in black and white, its done in a comic style of animation. Ya so you can do nasty stuff to the NPCS, but ive seen far worse on late night satellite, or in the B movie section of blockbuster.

I love GTA4, so this game is probably right up my alley.

You know, knife some random innocent on the streets, jack a car, smash pedestrians, go to the strip club. It's just like my real everyday life!!!

I agree. I love real time war strategy games, (C&C: Generals rocks) and other first person shooters are fun as all get out and I am not a violent person.

I am looking forward to playing this game. I am not a huge gamer, but many of my friends are, and they are not violent either.

By the way for those who do not know. Wii is famous for having a LOT of kid friendly games. It's not like there is no other choice for kids.

Why is it, any of your concern, what other people want to do?
Unless they are doing it, to you?
This is the big problem with this world.
People finding what other people want to do in the privacy of there own home, wrong.
Its none of anyone's business what other people do.
