As a child I experienced to many of these storms and I'm glad that my children won't face them where I live today.
The Storm
Looking out my window I see the rain dancing outside
The wind is gaining speed and the trees sway side to side
Lightning is flashing as the thunder rolls across the sky
Hail is falling hard as the roar of a monster comes in July
The cellar door is locked but the sound we can still hear
With my ears popping inside my pillow I shiver in fear
Debris pounds the cellar doors like an animal wanting in
I can feel the hair standing straight up on top of my skin
It’s ripping and shredding with its winds full of teeth
I feel the vibration of its wrath in the ground beneath
My knees start shaking as the tears soak my blue jeans
Every year in tornado alley it’s the same old routine
And just like that the storm disappears into the night
An F-4 killer that destroyed everything with its might
As my Dad pushes open the cellar door quiet fills the air
And the smell of all the destruction is waiting out there
