we'll go to a lot of trouble to make our spaceship invisible to radar and then put huge blinking lights on it to compensate......i don't buy it.
besides, if you were traveling in space, feasibly, most of the time you would have to be traveling faster than light, so lights on your spaceship are

Subway trams still have headlights on them. Do they need them? No.
the lights are mostly just for reassurance, they don't make things hugly safer. all the transport modes manage fairly well if the lights don't work,
but people feel safer with lights on.
I think it's very equatable to aliens seeing man in space for the first time. Back then you didn't see man drifting through space like deer
walking through a field.
