David Friehling surrendered to authorities after being accused of securities fraud, aiding and abetting investment adviser fraud and filing false audit reports.
Madoff, 70, pleaded guilty last week to defrauding investors of as much as $65bn (£45bn) in the biggest Ponzi scheme in history.
Friehling operated the Friehling & Horowitz accounting firm with his father-in-law, Jerome Horowitz, a former outside accountant for Madoff who retired in the 1990s and moved to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The firm operated out of a 550- square foot space in New City, a northern suburb of New York City in Rockland County. Friehling surrendered today in Manhattan federal court.
2:30 p.m. | Again, no answer: Representative Joe Donnelly of Indiana asks how long the S.E.C. knew there was a one-person accounting firm involved in Mr. Madoff’s operation. Ms. Thomsen said she couldn’t answer that question.
