Everything Fox has been saying lately about the Depression, and how the war, not the New Deal, is what fixed it, fits in with something O'Reilly had been saying months before- that if Obama doesn't fix the economy by the end of this year, everyone will hate him and he will be as much of a failed president as Bush.

How does it fit in?

Roosevelt's presidency was marked by one of his first years being worse than any previous years, and then it got better. The Fox writers are seeing that that's probably what will happen, and are scrambling to discredit it.

And for those saying it wasn't the spending that saved us- what do you think happens during a war, we stop spending altogether?

If the "New Deal" worked then how come right before we went to war the unemployment rate never got below 15%?

Most of the New Deal was also declared unconstitutional. There was nothing successful about the new deal the only thing it achieved is that it spent a whole bunch of money and prolonged it.

We are doing the same things that didn't work then and doing them now.

The New Deal also helped modernize the United States with such projects as the Tennessee Valley Authority. If nothing else, Roosevelt installed a sense of pride and hope to America. Sound familiar? When he took office the US was on well on its way to electing the communists into power. I would have rather had Roosevelt than that.
