Good book about the history of financial systems

I went to the library the other day and checked out a book called "The Ascent of Money" , if anyone gets a chance, take a read. This book was published in May 2008 and the author was spot on in talking about the credit bubble which was about to burst. Also really good history about a lot of the topics discussed on ATS, such as Rothschild,etc.

The Ascent of Money aired on British TV in the new year, presented by the author. Probabaly the only worthy piece of broadcasting in the UK so far this year. Here's a link. I think you can watch it in it's entirety.

It's returning again soon with an in depth analysis of the global recession. Should be just as good. Must say though, regarding the above, worth a copy of the book.
