You may have heard the conspiracy theory about digital converter boxes containing cameras and microphones so the government can spy on the US citizens.

I, being the owner of a digital converter box, decided to investigate this for myself.

The idea of the US government spying on us using these converter boxes is, quite frankly, ludacris. Only 14% of US households watch televison strictly over the air. That leaves 86% of US citizens out. So there is one flaw in the theory right there.

Another thing I was thinking about, is the man power and resources that would be neccasary in order to spy on all of the US 24 hours per day. It is just out of the question to spy on 306,024,272 people non stop.

Some of you may be thinking well what about the 14% who DID get teh box? Well, 14% equates to approximatley 15.5 million people. That would still require a ridiculously huge amount of man power and resources. This is just out of the question.

If these boxes were capable of spying they would need to be able to send out a signal, for obvious reasons. Well Digital converter boxes are not capable of that. The equipment neccasary to do so just is not there.

After doing all this research I decided to take my digital converter box to the garage and open it up myself to see just what is actually inside.

The converter box I own is a zenith brand DTT901 digital tv tuner converter box(that's a mouth full isnt it?). I bought it using the gift certifcates given out by the government.

Here is the video I made so you could go along for the ride and learn with me!(the video seems to lag a bit for some reason It didnt lag before I uploaded it...I apologise)

(click to open player in new window)

So as you can see there are no cameras or microphones inside digital converter boxes. I am not surprised that there arent to be perfectly honest.

Simply put there just isnt enough resources and man power to spy on all of the US 24 hours a day. it is just not possible.

As I say at the end of this video, Not everything is a conspiracy. Not everyone is out to get you. Some times things really are just as they appear and when it comes to the digital converter box...that is the case.

How dare you use common sense and your own hands and mind to work this out, you are a pain to all the hoaxers out there spreading their fear mongering!

Nice work in other words

Thank you very much. I appreciate that compliment.

I know it is a topic that has not been discussed too much lately but it was one that was easy to research and I have a digital converter box readily available to open up.

I do enjoy being a pain in the side of any and all hoaxers! I am anxious to see what any hoaxers or people who believe/believed this conspiracy have to say!

peace and love!

Really? No one else has anything to say on the subject?

Did I really cover the subject that well?

I was hoping a few people would have an opinion they would like to share.

Anyone out there?

good work looking for the camera but you forgot to look for the tracking chip

en.wikipedia.org...

it might be disguised

Why would they need to track a set top box?

It's going to sit next to the tv it's whole life isn't it...?

if you do some research into these RFID chips you will find they can do many things like GPS position to broadcasting capabilities.(it might have listening capabilities like some cell phones have wether their powered on or off)

i am not an electronic specialist or anything like that but it would be nice to find someone that has that knowledge and tear one of those boxes apart completely.

i am willing to bet there is some type of chip in those boxes that tracks information like what you watch and such just like google tracks all your moves on the internet.

more investigation is needed before you can put this conspiracy to rest imo.

Well for what it is worth, There were no tracking chips in there either.

As chadwickus said, it is a box that would sit next to the TV for it's whole life. I do know a few things about electronics and believe me, there was nothing in there that did not belong there.

The video is right here for you to analyze if you like. Go ahead. You can see very clearly right into the box.

I am away from my home today, and I will not be back untill Friday Night. Assuming this thread is still alive, I will take some still pictures as well of the inside of the box. You can analyze those too if you like.

Also, You can buy one for yourself! You can open it up and have a look for yourself. Just make sure it is unplugged!(electrocution hurts)

There is still time to send off for the Gift Cert's. Just go to DTV 2009 You can get them even if you do not have any tv's that are only able to pick up over the air signals.

As for more investigating being needed, what more can one do besides actually open one up and take a look inside? If you have any ideas, go right ahead and investigate!

I want to encourage you to investigate for your self. After all, that is going to be the best way for YOU to learn the truth.

Peace and Love

good job on that video but to be honest with you there is no way i could see a tiny tracking chip viewing the vid. that would be silly to try and investigate it that way.

i am willing to bet money that there is tracking RFID chip in that box

what it's capabilities are is debatable.

until an electronics expert that knows exactly what to look for and understands what these new chips can do...i myself won't be satisfied.

i did some research into these chips a while back and i will try to find all that stuff again...will post something when i can.

here's a place to start looking if you really want to research your topic here

You really think the research I have posted in my OP along with opening oen up myself and recording it, is not real research?Well as I said. How about you investigate for yourself? I mean REALLY investigate? Do not depend on internet websites. Go check it out for your self.

I have posted a video for you to look at and I have already offered to post still pics on Friday, but why wait for me? Do it yourself!

I have provided a way for you to go get one for yourself. So get one, Open it look for your self. Read up on electronics. When you do, Please, Feel free to come back and tell us what you found.

As for your betting that there is a RFID tracking device inside these boxes What would you like to wager?

You WILL lose that bet.

With all due respect, I have actually done the research. I have used common sense. I have opened one myself and looked for my self using my own eyes. I did not rely on what some website has told me. I figured it out for myself.

Please, I beg of you, go get one for yourself. Open it up yourself. record it yourself and post your findings here.

Let me ask you something. As I have pointed out and backed up with facts, embedding my evidence into the OP itself, only 14% of the USA has a need for a converter box. Why in the world would the government waste such resources and man power on such a program if it would not allow them to spy on everyone they want? It would only allow for them to spy on 15.5 million people.

Now, let me ask you this. How many people do you think it would take in order to spy in 15.5 million people 24 hours a day? How much do you think spying on 15.5 million people 24/7 would cost? How much would it cost to pay those people to spy 24 hours a day?

Do you realize just how uch man power and resources that we do not have, it would take to spy on 15.5 million people, let alone ALL of the country? Think about it. It is just ludacris to even think that it is possible.

There are no RFID chips in converter boxes. i found that out By myself. I opened one up. I looked. Nothing was there that didnt belong there. If you do not believe me. The best method to find out for yourself would be to go buy one yourself and look!

Please do! relying on some silly websites to make up your mind for you is not wise. When I opened the conveter box I did it with the mind set that I DID NOT know what I would find.

Please buy one, and check it out for yourself. Thank you for your website link but I have already done the research. I have already found the truth.

My converter box is bug free and you will find that yours is too...If you are so sure that there is tacking devices in them, you should buy one, pull it out and reveal this to the world! You should get on every news station you can, show everyone the chip implanted into converter boxes that will be in 14% of homes in an attempt by the government to spy on 100% of america.

but wait, if they are in all the converter boxes, where was my tracking device? Did mine slip past the inspector with out any spy devices?

WHAT?
No AA batteries?
No GPS device?
No iPod's?
No Blue Ray players?
No little hungry monsters inside?

Dude, I think you just voided your warranty.

Haha, I've seen that video.

As for the warranty.... yeah I probably did, but I have been thinking about running a cable line to my bedroom anyway. So I guess the number of people with boxes will soon change.

15.5 million-1 = 15,499,099

I think the truth is worth a void warranty anyway.

Oh, easynow, just incase there are any little monsters inside you should have marshmallows near by.

Nice video Alxandro

Peace and love

I'm totally shocked that no cameras or mics were in there... I'm sure you just didn't look hard enough.... i know the government is spying on us!!!!

Not my words.... but the kind of responses i was expecting to see.
Good work GST

I'm not surprised in the slightest by your findings but applaud your effort in trying to uncover the truth about this subject.

Nice one

ha, yeah that is true, alot of my other threada are just asking for opinions because I didnt really have a way to test things myself.

That is why I enjoyed making this thread so much. I was able to research and plan and even use my hands!

Ultamatly, in a wierd way, I think alot of ATS's goal is to not have anything left to talk about. In other words find the truth about everything...

Thank you for your compliment my friend.

Peace and love

Dude, you are like a one man government, cop and cospiracy theorist all in one, for this subject.
I now see you as a demi-god!
Ive only been here a small amount of time, but i beleive you are the only one to do anything of this nature, and for that i give you applause.
Only thing close is the one guy whos doing a "bug in" expiriment, and ill be watching that close.
Excellent, my friend.
And if you ever need any help with an expiriment, and you need some sort of lab rat, or control, just let me know.

In regards to the man power...why? Do you think there is a person per person spy ratio? It wouldn't take any man power, thus digital. All it would require is instructions, it being a computer with data sets on voice recognition and face recognition, but really they are way beyond that. If they want to see what you are doing they just look, all the other stuff is fluff.

Peace

This has already been hashed out like 5 times here at ATS. And as a retired broadcast tv engineer, I have given full descriptions across those threads as to what it would take for such a feat in those "RECEIVER" boxes, as well as the logistics required to do such a feat.

And I also pointed out, that digital TV has been on the air since 2001 across the airwaves, and on cable and satellite.

And I also pointed out that the huge cry wolf syndrome over the Feb 17 deadline was for over the air analog to simply cease, which did not change the fact that digital broadcast was and still is underway.

The new date set for the analog system to shut down doesnt change anything...other than analog going into the history books.

Also, if people are worried about big G man monitoring your every move, they already do that via your cell phone, your web cams, your home cordless phones, via satellite, cameras on the traffic lights, at ATM's, in just about every store in exsistance, and through dash cams on cop cars and in government vehicles.

Why bother messing with a converter box when they already have the means to do the job more effectively, and that is more distributed in the field already???

Think about it.

Case closed.

Cheers!!!!

Ok let us say that the spying is done all by computers.... Are you under the impression that computers run by themselves? Computers need man's help for things such as mantanaince. programming etc...

With out man power those computers would eventually fail. So yes, man power WOULD be needed even if this spying of 14% of the US in an attempt to spy on 100% were run by computers.

Oh yes, than there is the fact that there is no spying equipment in the converter boxes what so ever.....That would make it awfully hard to spy now wouldnt it?

peace and love
