The 'sword of conformity' you are dismissing is what has enabled this website to grow into what it is today... a place of civil discourse.

Dismissing?

I’m by no means ‘dismissing’ anything, nor do I see how ‘civil discourse’ has anything to do with out ‘off topic’ posts - the posts were very civil.
But I don’t want to get into it. You did what you felt you had to do, and there ya go - at the end of the day the sun goes down. peace

Anyway this bantering back and forth over something so insipidly stupid got old quick.

So I put a one-liner in my post that say “By the way, to stay on topic yadah yadah yadha’ and I’m all set.

And Studious you’re right. It was all the stars that got to me, and the fact that we didn’t get any backing, but, it’s done with now...and hopefully behind us...

As for my previous posts from last night, yes I edited them and mainly because I’m not interested in giving those wannabe’s out there something to s'n-word' at.

What happens on the Space Opera stays on the Space Opera kind of thing.

As for the group of you that are consistent and quality posters to the Opera, I also feel privileged to be a part of such a collaboration... And I’ll be key-holed if I’m going to back out of it because of the sniveling idiocy on sour-grape suckers that can’t get all the attention themselves so they have to ruin someone else's parade.

The show must go on...

Speaking of the show going on - Where's Cindymars? She should be back by now...

Also, still not email from Neno.

peace

Deson!
I'm so sorry you're not feeling well!

That is such a bummer.

Please pull through this quickly and with ease for your sake!

We'll keep your chair warm and I'll talk with CindyMars and Studious to see if we can work around things for a bit until you get back!

It would be great not to have to put you back into NPC status again now that you're finally ON as a writer!

Take care and keep us posted on how you're doing.

There - I've conformed. Happy happy Joy Joy...

Hey Masqua...

I apologized to the Mods, I was a big part of the chit chat and I apologize to you.

I really don't care who or what alerted the Mods, I clearly don't have a lot of reader love anyway.

I starred the Mod post out of respect.

I am still in the Opera, but very disappointed so it may take me a bit to write.
I think there was a lot of over-reaction.

This is just a fun thing not life or death.

So I am around, please U2U me if you want to talk anyone.

Thank you and Peace!

Greetings, folks! I'm awful sorry I fell off the net, and apologize to all profusely. Everything went sideways, real suddenly, and I had no warning, thus the reason I didn't give out an absence warning. It all started out slowly, and like a snowball rolling downhill, it collected momentum as it went. I'll not bore you with all the gritty details, but just say that as regards the Opera, the most serious of the occurences was the complete and total failure of the network card in my main computer ( I can't even connect to the local network now, much less the internet with it), compounded by tha fact that my dearest absconded with my laptop, and I have no idea where it is right now, and havent's for quite some time. Thus, I have no way to connect to the net currently.

Lots of other fun going on in my world at the moment too, and I'm pretty sure I haven't felt the last aftershock yet. At the moment I'm at a friend's house about 30 miles from my own, and going to check on a position with what I believe is a brand new company in the morning, which helps certain military types in their training regimen. More fun than you can shake a stick at, but I assure you that if I had a stick to hand, I'd more likely be beating with it than just shaking it.

I'll likely be here tomorrow as well, but then may have to plunge back into the maelstrom, depending on what's going on at the moment. One thing for sure, this mess has taught me to live in the moment, and not plan too far ahead. None of it is insurmountable, I just want to make sure I don't get zapped in the opera while I'm hashing it out.

I've not been to read the main thread yet, I've been catching up here. Been massive shakeups all around, it appears. I was shocked and dismayed to see Slayer and Badger BOTH gone. They'll be sorely missed. Last I heard, Studious was with the Yydryl, which leaves Luder to carry the Penelope All alone, since I've been AWOL. I'm not sure which new writers have gravitated where yet. Originally, My idea was to send neno on a long recon mission toward the Ophiuchichis, to park the character until I could get the bilge pumps working here. Now I may have to come up with something else.

I reckon it depends on how the story thread is shaping up, and what my fertile imagination can come up with. I know it's fertile, because I've been told - recently - that my head is full of... fertilizer... of sorts.

Anyhow, let me go read the story thread, and see what I can come up with, or how I may be able to patch stuff in. Be forewarned that it may still be a while before I have regular internet access again, as a number of things are gong to have to be replaced. I'll do what I can, while I can, and when I can.

Sorry to hear things are chaotic for you at the moment, but I'm sure you'll pull through.

I for one am just glad to hear that you're okay.

Oh, and we have Mr. Toodles at the Science Station now, so I'm not completely alone....

It's good to hear you're alright Neno.

Unrelated:

I'm finishing up my next post and it involves the 3 second computer shutdown that Seeker mentioned earlier.

Glad you're ok - *WHEW*...

Hang in there and we'll keep your chair warm for you - and not yank it out from under you when you go back to sit down.

Take Care, hope all works out for the best.

ON TOPIC: Maybe you should come on over to the Yydryl for a bit? Head in that direction maybe? I guess we'll wait and see...

I can't wait to see how you deal with that.

How do you think that would effect the Yydryl - her being alive and all?

Will be interesting to see.

Let me know if there's anything you want me to put in my next post.

thanks

It is a relief to hear that you are ok.
I think we were all worried.

I am ready if someone wants to fill me in what's is going on on the Yydryl otherwise I guess I can write off Ship.

What do you mean 'write off Ship'?
Do you want to get messaged to come back or not?

For some reason I was under the impression you were going to come back - that Carpet had gotten a hold of Milli and you were going to be there before we even got a chance to send a message to you?

I've been waiting for you to post after Studious (as Deson cannot at the moment)...

Studious? What's next? What are you working on for the 3 minute interruption?

I would think this would be a good time for Deson to hightail it back to his workplace - he'll want to check on all his 'babies' and it will give him a few days to recover from his flue and get back into the story. (I sure hope he’s doing better)!

Before the *three minute* thing we were all going to get together for a meeting - now it's probably more important than ever to get all in one place.

We'll have to wait and see what Studious says and work it into you CindyMars putting together a meeting - wherever it is Leisure Officers put together meetings on board. What a conference room? Does the bar have video capabilities? I’ve not a clue.

I've just got a quick piece to finish typing and then I'll present my idea here in the Working thread to get approval for it.

I don't want to present it "half-baked" so to speak.

Sorry about the delay

I'm guessing it won't be longer than an hour.

Here is a rough version. The droids are the g-droids that Silo mentioned would be guarding the hanger bay and other key areas.

Studious refers to them as droids not knowing they are called Guardian Droids (a.k.a. g-droids)

Some things may seem out of place (particularly the part about the deoxygenated area of the ship.) but that is because they tie into the NI-7 side of this story.

(The NI-7 side of this story is already made and I have something special planned for it.)

________________________________________________________________
Two droids escorting Nathan from his cell arrived and they left once Nathan was under the watchful optical sensors of the four other droids guarding Studious and the rest of the team.

After this the Lt. Commander continued to brief Studious on the rumors of the cancer.

Ackerman: “There had been rumors of an entire shadow war taking place that few inside NI even knew about.”

Studious: “If no one knew about the war who would be fighting it?”

Ackerman: “Anyone maybe everyone. They just wouldn’t know that’s why they were fighting.”

The Colonel stopped for a second thinking he had seen a shadow moving behind him. He wondered if he was becoming paranoid.

Studious: “How long has this been going on?”

Ackerman: “The rumors of a shadow group have existed for a long time but the idea of a shadow war has only existed since the Nimitz incident.”

The old man saw another shadow but this one was different.

Studious: “How do you know this isn’t just all rumor and theory?”

Ackerman: “Earth was destroyed, presumably the civilian government has been decapitated. This will give the shadow NI a chance to seize power.”

As he walked he saw another shadow move and wondered if something was following the team.

He turned to Ackerman and whispered “Did you notice anything weird following us?”

Ackerman nearly laughed saying “Besides the creepy killer droids?”

Studious: “No it’s like a shadow, but it’s different each time. It’s like several things are following us.”

Evans moved closer and whispered “I see it too.”

The Colonel looked back at Nathan who had joined the team to be taken to their quarters. Judging by the increase in his twitching he had seen something as well.

The old man saw the shadow and again it was different than the other two times he had seen it. When he looked back at Ackerman his was as white as a sheet so Studious knew he had seen it as well.

The Colonel then saw the shadow in a different location but his time it was raising something…..a weapon of some sort.

The old man grabbed Ackerman and tackled him to the ground as a red beam was fired. It missed Studious’ head by a few inches.

The droids seeing this sudden movement trained their weapons on both of them. They all assumed they were about to be killed.

Then miraculously all the droids turned off. Fearing that the alien crew was trying to kill them Studious yelled “The Droids!”

In a moment they had each grabbed one of the four droids guarding them.

Studious pulled a panel off a droid and jammed it into the circuitry the panel had covered. Sparks flew from the still disabled droid.

Ackerman grabbed the droid from behind and pulled at its weapon turret until he ripped it off.

Monroe grabbed the droids head piece and bent it slightly.

Evans removed a panel and being an engineer he rewired the droid causing it to short circuit.

While it would have been impossible for them to succeed if they only had 3 seconds the droids were trying to reboot and this added several seconds allowing the team to defeat the droids.

Quickly Studious formed a plan and told Ackerman “Get to the hangar bay. I’ll disable that green beam we encountered that took Seeker. Hopefully that should give you the ability to escape."

Ackerman: “What about you Colonel?”

Studious: “That’s an order!”

Ackerman: “I outrank you.”

Studious: “Well then….just do it! It’s our only chance.”

Ackerman nodded and took off. Studious could hear that Evans was objecting to leaving him behind and the old man was touched by this.
The Colonel took off and ran down several corridors but every time he looked back he saw a shadowy figure still following him. Anything he did to lose the shadow failed.

The old man stopped but the shadow kept moving first he saw it on his left then it was behind him and then it came closer and closer. Each time it changed its form.

However when several droids arrived an began searching the area the shadow was nowhere to be seen.

He then ran around for several minutes hiding from enemy patrols and moving around until he heard a buzzing noise. Moving closer to it he found that it was coming from a room with a large walkway that spanned a deep chasm.

A few large structures with control panels stood suspended over the chasm. Each structure had a circular walkway to allow access to the panels.

He jumped from the walkway onto one of the circular walkways and thought to himself “The person who designed this should be fired. Why do they make it a death defying stunt just to access these control panels?”

A group of droids passed by and their commander said “Secure this area until the alert is canceled. Give me regular reports.”

The rest of the droids passed by but two of them remained. One asked the other. “Do you know what’s going on?”

The second droid responded “Maybe it’s another attack.”

Then moving quickly he circled around the panels and tried to understand the foreign symbols written on them. Finding a picture with a green beam emanating from the nose of the ship he turned the large electrical switch next to it. He heard what sounded like a device powering down.

One droid said “What was that?”

The second responded “Probably nothing. Do not allocate CPU about it.”

Satisfied that he had turned off the device he looked at another picture that looked like ship schematics. Though he didn’t understand what was written he saw small pictures of what looked like spacecraft in a bay nearby. Hoping that the team was heading there he decided to head toward the bay.

But the droids blocked his escape. To get past them he took a small ball bearing from one of the devices and threw it.

One droid said “I definitively detected something this time.”

The second responded “Affirmative.”

As both droids went to investigate the Colonel jumped back to the walkway but he wobbled and nearly fell off of it. Studious’ cane and other all of the team’s equipment had been taken to his surprise he found it attached to one of the droids. ##Producing## Taking back his cane he used it to stabilize himself. Luckily the droids didn’t see him.

He then took off and headed toward the bay. Oddly the walls looked blue and deoxygenated and this helped him pass through several doorways without having the tentacles attack him.

Soon he saw the hangar bay in front of him and saw that a transport was waiting.

But before he could reach it the shadowy figure revealed himself and changed shape right before the old man’s eyes. The now menacing figure approached him saying.

Shapeshifter: “I’ve been waiting for you, Studious. We meet “again,” at last. The cycle is now complete when I “met” you, I was but a pawn; now I am the master.”

Studious: “Only a master of…..shape shifting."

Shapeshifter: “You’re thinking we’ve never met. In one sense that is true, but I’ve been watching you.”

Studious: “You have?”

Shapeshifter: “Well I’m the handler for someone who was watching you.”

Studious: “So you were watching someone else watching me?”
Shapeshifter: “Irrelevant.”

The shapeshifter moved forward and Studious raised his cane. The figure raised only his fists.

Studious dealt the figure a blow to the knee the chest and the head and the he stumbled backwards.

The Colonel heard a mechanical noise and looked over to see that several droids were approaching him. But behind them he could the team was boarding the transport. When he turned his gaze back to the shapeshifter he was holding a gun. The old man knew that his cane couldn’t deflect the red blast that had nearly hit him before.

So the old man lowered his cane and the shapeshifter fired. He collapsed onto the ground unconscious and the shapeshifter fled back into the shadows.
_______________________________________________________________

(I want to contact Questioningall, even though she's left the Opera, for permission to use the shapeshifter guy in this way.

However I'll wait before sending her a message about it because changes may need to be made.)

The goal of the post is two-fold.

1. It allows me to send NI-7 of on a specific adventure.

2. It will begin to reveal the shapeshifter which will tie up that loose end. Plus it will help convince Studious that it was not the Yydryl crew that was behind the mind control that destroyed the Nimitz and nearly killed him.

What is *Do not allocate CPU* mean - sorry - That one went over my head.

Also, how are you going to deal with Ship is alive and knows what you’re up to? She just had said how she’s had enough of the problems of attacks, etc and there’s no way she wouldn't react to this newest breach of *etiquette* let’s say.

Don't forget, the droids around the other bays will shoot to kill. And they’re no way to be *distracted*...

Thankers
