Now THAT"S true role playing.

The villain is deceased. Let's keep this in the story.

So sorry, perhaps I shouldn't have voiced Whispers desire of an organic ship. ::sigh::

Starting off late tonight, we have storms and I don't even have dinner on yet
On eastern US time zone here.

Captain, I'm down with whatever you want in regards to our appearance. I can always re-work my intro piece for the main page. Did I also see right that we are a group of various species?

Have fun & happy writing all

Hm... while I do like it I must say it doesn't introduce much. It almost makes it seem like Villain's character is supposed to have some important meaning in the future of the Opera, you know being that it starts with his death.

Scurvy thinks the villain's post should be removed TEMPORARILY until we get a captain's post or something like that... something that sets us in a direction. Then we could ask him to paste it again to keep it in but a little further down the page and as representing more of his character than the story.

EDIT TO ADD: I also find Whisper's signature ironic after this...

A Ghost?

We'll see. If visible_villain wants to be involved, he'll need to U2U me.

A ghost or someone else can make a back story for it... "Scurvy vaguely recalls an instance of a brief run in with the pansy Comm. officer that blew his brains out before the mission, he had mentioned something about a relic on the planet Mars, a planet in the same solar system as the home world of those filthy alien scum."... or something.

It could be better if we moved VVs post to the first slot after the Captains... I thought it was a brilliant opening even though the pizza shape no longer applies...

Also I would like to see where Captain Cadbury is going to lead our crew before writing my intro piece.

That link IS a gold mine. And a gem mine.

I've only read about 1/2 way through thus far but up to this point it's been nothing but helpful. It's like getting the harsh criticism put in front of you as if to say... Don't do it. But in a very formal presentation

Alrighty Capt. Luder, I think I have some better info on the weapon systems for you:

Close Range:

Cluster fragmentation pods "Grapeshot" (to overwhelm enemy boarders)
Mobile Displacement Sinks "D-Sink Shot" (absorbs tremendous amount of energy to defeat shield systems)
Plasma Lance Turrents "Zone Killers" (sweeps target with high energy plasma in a constant beam for as long as engineering can maintain the power needed for continual fire)

Long Range:

50 MagRail Magnetic Propulsion Turrents on both Port and Starboard "Broadside System" (pounds target with Iron bricks magnetically accelerated to incredible speeds)
Smart-Core Fusion Warheads "Manhattans" (fusion missiles capable of speeds up to 25 G-forces)
Heavy Destructor Missile Propulsion Pods "Quantum Busters" (built to overwhelm and irradiate, QBs have been tested on remote moons, resulting in shattered lifeless belts of debris)
Mini-Wormhole Equipped Kinetic Projectiles "Luminals" (tiny missiles fitted with miniature wormhole generators designed to enter a FTL state and revert to real-space at close to the speed of light to strike intended target. Destruction guaranteed. *by human standards*)

Defensive:

Anti-Incoming Laser Bulbs "AILBs" (to liquefy boarders or space debris)
Reverse Inertia Pulse Fields "Repulsors" (bursts reflective Inertia fields to halt or reverse incoming kinetic projectiles, vulnerable to course correcting warheads)
Anti-Warhead Close Range Chaff Pods "Chaff" (deploys and releases billions of quartzite shards near to enemy missiles to shred fast moving, course correcting warheads)

Let me know what you think Captain. Also, am I in charge of ship defenses like shields and such or is that engineering's job?

Can I play?

Also, might I suggest a slight alteration to the rules?

In addition to the currently assigned roles, why not let any member participate under the current rules so long as a member consistently remains whatever 'character' he or she introduces? The "formal" ship positions you enumerate can remain restricted and only assignable as originally intended. But anything else is fair game.

The front page could also list each new member and their selected character under the ship (or location) roster where the new character is introduced.

Then...as long as within the 'rules'...let the chips fall where they may.

Incidentally, I like visible_villain's first post. I say leave it where it is and build upon it.

But it does probably require one last rule amendment: once dead, you may not assume a new character within the thread. Death may be brought about by two means only: 1) by the choice of the member in the manner the member describes (as visible_villain has done) or 2) by Mr. Nature, who will undoubtedly use his natural means to clean up loose ends where necessary.

Either way, I'd like to play.

You're on.

As to the proposals you also mention, they can be considered by the role players. Some good ideas, Loam.

You've been assigned as Ensign to the Rigellian vessel under Captain Cadbury.

If, as the saga gains momentum, more than 13 positions on each ship are filled and more members wish to join in as Role Players, they can do so by asking (just as you did now) in this thread. Once established on
on the roster by the approval of the captain, they are able to join in.

I don't think it would be good if new Role Players popped in out of nowhere. There's already one stowaway.

Agreed. The OP can be edited to reflect changing circumstances. I'm considering a list of those who 'die' in the line of duty to be added as well. The first might be visible_villain.

That's exactly the kind of post to put onto the new thread. Role playing at it's best.

I suggest you include it there at your convenience.

masqua, questioningall just wrote a long post to ask to fill the position of the communications specialist... She hit post and it was not allowed access.

She would be a great contributor to the collaboration. Please?

Welcome Ensign Loam! Welcome all new additions!

Before I begin writing later this afternoon I'd like to ask if anyone has any objections to my using of Portable Document Format (.pdf) to write some of the larger parts that contain dialogue and paragraphs? Most orders or general conversation will be conducted normally on thread, but for the bigger parts I had in mind I'd really like to use .pdf (uploaded to ATS member space and hyper-linked directly).

Is any participant/collaborator unable to open that file type on their computer? If so I think I have a work-around.
