As far as education Mumia Abu-Jamal had a lot to say. Mumia declared that America’s schools are more segregated now than they were in 1970-71. Mumia stated that the education was far worse in this country than it was in the 70’s as well. He explained how people run away from public school nowadays and that charter schools are now being pushed in order to privatize education and make it a business. He brought up George Bush’s infamous quote, “This is an ownership society.” Mumia concluded his point by saying that if you do not own anything in America than you are out of luck.
Mumia commented on the DNC and RNC conventions as well. He found it interesting that Rudy Giuliani mocked Obama at the RNC convention by calling him a “community organizer.” Mumia explained how true revolutionaries make change, organize people and organize their community. He added that organizing was the key to any success for social change. When asked who he would have voted for Mumia said he would have voted for Representative Cynthia McKinney because she stood up against the patriot act and continues to push to end government secrecy.
