i doubt its a scheme.

I wish my teacher taught me about banks, otherwise, i'd be in much better shape bank wise.

For my opinion its about time teachers realized the importance of children learning finances.

Hopefully it is not a scheme but I think us at ATS
know how the banks work and the hatred the founders had for banks.

hmm...when I was a kid, the bank came to us.

every year they would come in, or maybe it was just the teacher helping us fill out the paperwork, it's been a long time since I was in gradeschool. they would open up christmas savings accounts for any of us who wanted it. then every week, we could bring in a little money to put into our savings accounts, or we could go to the bank and deposit it if we could. then well, we had christmas spending money at the end of the year.

don't know what kind of interest we were getting for it, but well, my place of work offers about the same thing, you have have a little of you paycheck put into a christmas savings account, but well, considering how much they charge you in interest when you borrow money, the depositors are getting ripped! I might as well stash my cash in my mattress, and well, have access to it if I need it. which is no one has been saving any money, there is no reward really, stocks were rewarding nicely, gold and silver still are, savings accounts at the banks don't keep up with inflation, cd's do just a little better.

but then, you don't want people putting their money into savings accounts anyways, do ya, not if you have big schemes planned to get everyone into debt up to their necks and ripoff the stockholders...

It makes sense given today's talk of banks all over the news. Kids should learn at least what a bank is (remember most kids don't have the faintest clue).

Then they should be given a pop quiz about derivatives and mortgage backed securities.

Economic Education is very important in today's climate. I think the younger we start teaching our kids how the system works the better off they will be. If more people had used better sense Bernie Madeoff (sp?) wouldn't have pulled off the biggest scam in US history.

Kids should be taught about credit. How it works and when not to use it. They should learn how to create a budget and stick to it. They should learn about the stock market and its function. How to write checks, save money, plan for their futures. . .

The bank is a great place to start. They can deposit their pennies in their account and learn how the bank uses their money to loan to other people, to get interest returned on the loan, to fill out paperwork for bailout assistance, to fund their $10,000 retreats.

Economic Education is very important. How do I get my personal bailout?

Ha ha yes! When I was little I remember going on a bank field trip, so I don't think it is a new thing.

P.S. My quote is another one of those heating and cooling specialist's quips.

When they take my 4 year old son to the bank, I want him to apply for a credit card and personal loan. just to see if he would get approved.

My oldest is eighteen, so over a decade ago, his class had a field trip to the local bank. They walked, as we lived in a small town(that I now miss, sniff). Anyway, they all got suckers and a shiny quarter after the visit. My son was impressed(as five yr olds tend to be) by the vault.

I don't think there is a conspiracy here, just another educational field trip.
