Okay. Well this happened over 10 years ago. My friend and I were walking down the street one winter night in northern minnesota. Out of nowhere we both saw this red ball light up that that seemed as though it was on fire accros the street. The ball was slightly smaller than a basketball I would say, and floating about 7 feet above the ground. It was moving the opposite direction of us and was only visible for about 4 or 5 seconds and then it just disappeared. I've never seen or heard of anything else like this and it's always bothered me. Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this?

Did it appear to follow a straight trajectory? If so, then it's likely that you saw a meteor. 4-5 seconds is a longish one, but not too unusual, and red is not an uncommon color.

Although it's common that people think the distances involved are small, this is actually not the case, and it's very easy to completely miscalculate distances with these type of events. I have experienced this for myself.
